Texas native and younger sister to Jessica Simpson, Ashlee Simpson (now Ashlee Simpson-Wentz) was born in 1984.
At age 11, she was the youngest person ever admitted to the School of American Ballet. After dancing backup for her sister from 1999 to 2001, Simpson-Wentz released her own album, Autobiography, in 2004. Aided by the popularity of a reality show detailing the making of her album, Autobiography achieved platinum status.
Infamously, Simpson was embarrassed in front of a national TV audience when she began lip-syncing to the wrong vocal track on a 2004 episode of Saturday Night Live.
On the CW's Melrose Place reboot, Simpson appeared as bad girl Violet early in the 2009 season but was given the boot in October, along with costar Collin Egglesfield. Though producers maintain her character was always supposed to be written off, sources say her acting was "embarassingly bad."
In February 2011, Simpson filed for divorce from her husband of three years, Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz. The pair share a son, Bronx Mowgli.
