Best known to film audiences as the brash Megan in 2011's Bridesmaids, Melissa McCarthy was beloved by TV fans as Sookie St. James on Gilmore Girls, on which she appeared from 2000-2007. Following up Gilmore Girls with roles on Samantha Who? and Mike and Molly (for which she won an Emmy), McCarthy most recently appeared in The Heat opposite Sandra Bullock.
An alumna of The Groundlings improv group, McCarthy -- a cousin of actress Jenny McCarthy -- was also nominated for an Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series Emmy after hosting Saturday Night Live in 2011.
Married to actor Ben Falcone (who appeared in supporting roles in McCarthy's films Bridesmaids, Identity Thief and The Heat), McCarthy has two daughters, Vivian and Georgette.
In 2013, McCarthy faced controversy when New York Observer film critic Rex Reed called her "tractor-sized" and "a hippo" in a scathing review of her film Identity Thief. "I felt really bad for someone who is swimming in so much hate," McCarthy later told the New York Times of Reed. "I just thought, that's someone who's in a really bad spot, and I am in such a happy spot. I laugh my head off every day with my husband and my kids who are mooning me and singing me songs."
