BIO

The New Mexico-raised Neil Patrick Harris was born June 15, 1973. The actor got his start early with roles in Purple People Eater and Clara's Heart when he was 15 years old. The following year, in 1989, Harris starred as a teenage doctor in Doogie Howser, M.D., which earned him a People''s Choice Award.

Harris next appeared onstage in Rent and occasionally appeared in films over the next decade, including Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle. He returned to the small screen full-time in 2005 as witty Barney Stinson in the hit sitcom, How I Met Your Mother.

The actor publicly revealed he is gay in 2006, though he had been out to friends and family for years. Harris has been in a committed relationship with actor David Burtka since 2004; they are currently engaged. In October 2010, the couple welcomed twins Gideon Scott and Harper Grace.
