Named 2006's Most Powerful Celebrity by Fortune magazine, actor Tom Cruise was born July 3, 1962 in Syracuse, N.Y. His breakout role was that of a high school student in 1983's Risky Business and in the years since, Cruise has appeared in popular films such as Top Gun, Rain Man and A Few Good Men.

Following huge publicity pushes for his movies War of the Worlds and Mission: Impossible: 3, as well as the birth of his daughter Suri Cruise with wife Katie Holmes, Cruise is keeping a relatively low profile -- but only after a year of eyebrow-raising antics and outspoken Scientology beliefs.

On June 28, 2012, Holmes filed for divorce.
