Not everything in Chelsea Handler's life is a laughing matter.

While appearing on The Rosie Show, the 36-year-old TV host revealed she got pregnant when she was just 16 years old -- and she was determined to keep the child.

"I was so delusional," Handler said Wednesday. "I was like, 'I'm ready for a baby.'"

The New Jersey native's parents, Rita and Seymour, had different plans for their daughter. "You're throwing your entire life away," they told her. "You're supposed to create a life for yourself. We want you to enjoy your life and not be raising a child, and we're certainly not going to raise it for you."

Host Rosie O'Donnell sympathized with Handler, arguing that for some women, having an abortion isn't "a life-defining negative thing."

Twenty years later, Handler said she has "no regrets" about her decision. "I wouldn't be a good mother," the bestselling author said. "You should do whatever you want with your body and you shouldn't let anyone tell you what to do."

if it wasn't so "life-defining" why is she still talking about it 20 years later?

NO WAY is she 36! She's AT LEAST 46, unless her face had a run in with the back of a truck!

I don't want to start taking jabs at anyone but at the end of the day, she felt it was right for her and now she has no regrets because she realizes now she would have made a bad parent. Giving up a child for adoption is just as dramatic as having the child. Stop being so judgmental! I CAN APPRECIATE SOMEONE WHO CAN ARGUE AND NOT CURSE, TAKE PERSONAL JABS, OR ATTACK SOMEONE BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE THE SAME OPINION AS YOU. We all make mistakes, and this should be taken into consideration. It's the women that use abortion as birth control that bothers me, one time isn't so bad as long as you learn from your mistake the first time.

Chelsea Handler makes a living as a provocateur. But she could be outing herself to make an ethical point rather than being found-out and accused of trying to hide it. Again. All these opinions focus on 50% of the people involved in an accidental pregnancy. A boy/guy/man who has unprotected sex resulting in conception also contributes to very traumatic outcomes EVEN IF the mother has the child. And yet everyone focuses on the woman and her faults. There is a reason children come into the world with two parents: optimally it takes two loving, mature, and selfless adults to bring-up a child. Having a child binds couples together for life, like it or not. Being a single-parent child - or even a child of a couple who can't handle parenthood - who feels unwanted or that he/she was a "mistake" is a special kind of hell.

Maybe your parents should have aborted you the way you took the life of your innocent child , because it was inconvenient!

For all you commenting below my comment, STFU! Its called pro-choice. If someone accidently or is forced into pregnancy and doesnt want it, it`s the women`s decision to abort it. Its not about taking responsibility for your actions. Its about doing whats best for yourself. You take care of your life and enjoy it before you get into something that takes more then just responisiblity, children take your money, your time, and freedom, no teenage girl should give up their lives to take care of a crying baby. Chelsea handler was right to do so. Shes got an amazing career and is hilarious in the process. This action doesnt effect her anymore. So everyone should leave her alone. She did the right thing for herself. Did it effect your life? NO, exactly. So f*** off!

A traumatic experience giving a child up for adoption? I suppose by that statement then having an abortion isn't traumatic, except for the child. Chelsea Handler is such a low-life that I somehow can understand now where she's coming from when her own parents want their grandchild destroyed. No one wants to take responsibility for their actions anymore. A child is conceived after a fun-filled night and the child has to pay for it because having it is inconvenient and not the right time. I do agree Chelsea wouldn't make a good mother, she has no values to guide a new life by.

You're a pig Chelsea. When is someone going to abort you?

  • February 11, 2012 - 12:45pm Michaela Maximus

LIsten - Chelsea Handler is a full grown woman who is talking about an experience at 16. There are a lot more women in the US having abortions than you might think. Nobody WANTS to get an abortion, so take a deep breath and not judge.

"You should do whatever you want with your body and you shouldn't let anyone tell you what to do." --I agree with her in that no one should tell you what to do with your own body, but when you KILL another body, that is where there is a problem. How can a person Kill their own kid?

It seems as though if she had the baby, people would've complained about how much of a terrible mother she would have been. Had she given it up for adoption, who knows how traumatic that would have been for her. It is so much easier to suggest putting a child up for adoption when it's not your own. Instead, she had an abortion, and people still aren't happy. People need to stop worrying about another woman's embryo and focus on their own families which in many cases are not all together. Just glad she has no regrets!

For those of u are slamming those of us that are AGAINST abortion, women are may not be baby making machines, but they shouldn't be baby KILLING machines either! Chelsea Handler may have had only 1 abortion, but it's the whole fact of that baby could have been given up for adoption. A woman does have the right to do with their bodies as they see fit, but babies do not asked to be conceived, nor do they ask to die. JMO.

Make your decision about your body before you are pregnant. Once you have created a life, you should not take it.

  • February 10, 2012 - 11:47pm Mandy Stauffer

She never had any more children? Well if and when she has children, that is when it will hit her...when she looks at that kid and realizes that they are so special. Ask any woman who has went on to have children later and see what they say. She's never been able to appreciate the life of a child of her own, so she doesn't know what she missed.

  • February 10, 2012 - 11:35pm Mike McNabb

Good for her for doing what was best for her. Forcing a 16 year old to be a mother is never a good idea. And forcing someone to give birth and then give the child away is traumatic for the mother too. You can't and shouldn't tell a woman what to do with her body.

WHO WOULD WANT THIS WITCH ON WHEELS FOR A MOTHER ANYWAY? BETTER YET WHO WAS STUPID ENOUGH TO HAVE SEX WITH HER.?

  • February 10, 2012 - 11:13pm Charles Almon

I see US has a decidedly Right Wing slant.

  • February 10, 2012 - 11:12pm Charles Almon

Adoption is not an option if it means carry a fetus to full and WRECKING THE MOTHER'S LIFE. Anti abortion folks are seriously disturbed. "Depriving" ANOTHR COUPLE OF A CHILD??? Good grief. Women are not incubators or baby making machines. The fetus HAS NO RIGHTS. Only the mother The woman come first. Always.
