Fall TV Preview 2023: Inside the Must-Watch New and Returning Shows

Amid the WGA and SAG strikes, the fall TV schedule is in for a shakeup with both new and returning shows. Hulu's The Other Black Girl explores Nella’s (Sinclair Daniel) journey as the only Black woman at a New York City publishing firm. She gets excited when Hazel (Ashleigh Murray) arrives before quickly starting to question the newcomer’s intentions following several strange occurrences. Murray previously discussed her interest in exploring different roles after playing a high school student on The CW's Riverdale and Katy Keene. "It's so wonderful because I've always been a very mature person, even in my youth and it's nice to be able to finally step and walk in that same maturity," the actress told Us Weekly and other reporters while promoting her TV series Tom Swift in May 2022. "It feels good to feel like a woman, to be received as a woman and to be respected as a woman. I can show up and I can command a space and I can command attention and I will be listened to. I will be understood, welcomed and received." Reality TV fans also have plenty to look forward to with shows such as Selling the OC, Southern Charm, The Kardashians, FBoy Island and more making their return. ‘Selling the OC’ (Netflix)

The Selling Sunset spinoff, which has already been renewed for season 3, returns with the promise of more real estate, romance and drama. (September 8)

‘The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon’ (AMC)

The latest Walking Dead spinoff reintroduces Daryl (Norman Reedus) to the audience after he washes ashore trying to figure out how he ended up in France. The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, which received a renewal before the show's premiere, follows Daryl as he tries to piece together the events that led him overseas. (September 10)

'The Morning Show' (Apple TV+)

Season 3 of The Morning Show hints at Alex (Jennifer Aniston) and Bradley's (Reese Witherspoon) discontent with how UBA is being run. When a virtual breach puts the network in financial disaster, Jon Hamm's character, Paul Marks, gets involved as an investor with questionable motives. (September 13)

'The Other Black Girl' (Hulu)

Based on the 2021 novel of the same name, The Other Black Girl focuses on a Black editorial assistant who starts to question a newcomer at her workplace. (September 13)

‘Southern Charm’ (Bravo)

Bravo's Southern Charm returns with Austen Kroll and Taylor Ann Green's rumored hookup fresh on everyone's mind. Season 9 will also focus on Craig Conover's relationship with Paige DeSorbo as they figure out their future together and Madison LeCroy's potential pregnancy following her wedding to Brett Randle. (September 14)

'Wilderness' (Prime Video)

The thriller series is inspired by a novel of the same name by B.E. Jones. Wilderness, which featured “Look What You Made Me Do” from Taylor Swift’s Reputation (Taylor's Version) in the show’s trailer, explores a dream holiday that becomes a nightmare for a couple (Jenna Coleman and Oliver Jackson-Cohen) due to heartbreak, fury and revenge. 'American Horror Story: Delicate' (FX)

Based on Danielle Valentine’s novel Delicate Condition, the horror series follows an actress named Anna Alcott who comes to believe that someone is going to great lengths to stop her from fulfilling her dream of getting pregnant. American Horror Story: Delicate stars Kim Kardashian, Emma Roberts, Zachary Quinto, Matt Czuchry and Cara Delevingne. (September 20)

'Sex Education' (Netflix)

The final season of the Netflix series features a change of location after Mooredale closed its doors. The students are now attending Cavendish Sixth Form College instead, which is surprisingly progressive when it comes to sex therapy. (September 21)

'The Irrational' (NBC)

Jesse L. Martin stars in the NBC drama about a professor of behavioral science who uses his knowledge to help solve high-stakes cases involving governments, law enforcement and corporations. (September 25)

'The Kardashians' (Hulu)

Season 4 of The Kardashians will presumably continue to follow Kim’s ups and downs with Kanye West, Khloé Kardashian's growing family and Kourtney Kardashian's first pregnancy with husband Travis Barker is expected to take center stage as well. (September 28)

'Found' (NBC)

The NBC drama, which stars Shanola Hampton and Mark-Paul Gosselaar, focuses on a crisis management team that leads the search for missing people. (October 3)

'Sullivan’s Crossing' (The CW)

Based on the novel series by Robyn Carr, The CW series follows a neurosurgeon (Morgan Kohan) who must return to her hometown in rural Nova Scotia. She ends up reconnecting with her estranged father (Scott Patterson) while forming a bond with a newcomer (Chad Michael Murray). (October 4)

'Quantum Leap' (NBC)

Season 2 picks up after Ben’s (Raymond Lee) attempt to leap back into the present day. Complications with time travel, however, presumably create obstacles for Ben and the Quantum Leap project. (October 4)

'Loki' (Disney+)

Marvel's hit series returns after Loki (Tom Hiddleston) previously ended up in an alternate timeline. After Loki and Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) faced He Who Remains a.k.a. Kang (Jonathan Majors), the pair were offered the chance to take over the Time Variance Agency (TVA). Sylvie declined in favor of killing Kang and Loki seemingly ended up in the wrong timeline. 'The Fall of the House of Usher' (Netflix)

The upcoming miniseries, which is based on the short story of the same name by Edgar Allan Poe, follows the CEO of a corrupt pharmaceutical company who has to face his questionable past when his children start dying in mysterious and brutal ways. (October 12)

'FBoy Island' (The CW)

The reality series has a new home on The CW — with former Bachelorette Katie Thurston as one of the leading ladies in season 3. FBoy Island follows three women who must figure out whether their male suitors are “Nice Guys” or “Fboys" in order to win a cash prize. (October 12)

'House of Villains' (E!)

Fans of reality shows including Survivor, The Challenge, The Bachelor and more will see some familiar faces on E!’s new series. House of Villains introduces several notorious reality TV villains as they compete for the title of “America’s Ultimate Supervillain" and a cash prize of $200,000. (October 12)

'Lessons in Chemistry' (Apple TV+)

Based on the novel of the same name by Bonnie Garmus, Lessons in Chemistry tells the story of a female scientist (Brie Larson) in the 1960s who hosts a TV cooking show to educate housewives on scientific topics. (October 13)

'Fellow Travelers' (Showtime)

Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey star in the historical miniseries, which is based on the fictional novel written by Thomas Mallon. The story follows a decades-long romance between two men who first meet in the 1950s. (October 27)

'The Gilded Age' (HBO)

Season 2 of The Gilded Age picks up in 1883 following Bertha's (Carrie Coon) rejected bid for a box at the Academy of Music. (October 29)

'The Buccaneers' (Apple TV+)

The Apple TV+ series, which stars Kristine Frøseth, Alisha Boe, Josie Totah, Aubri Ibrag, Imogen Waterhouse, Mia Threapleton and Christina Hendricks, is based on Edith Wharton’s unfinished final novel which focuses on the culture clash caused by young American women taking part in London's social season during the 1870s.
