About

Vivica A. Fox is an actress and producer best known for her roles in Independence Day, Set It Off, Soul Food and Kill Bill: Vol. 1. Fox was raised in Indianapolis and later attended Golden West College in California, earning an associate’s degree in social sciences before pursuing a career in entertainment.

Fox began her career as a dancer on Soul Train in 1983 before landing roles on soap operas including Days of Our Lives, Generations and The Young and the Restless. Her breakout arrived in 1996 with starring roles opposite Will Smith in Independence Day (1996) and alongside Jada Pinkett Smith and Queen Latifah in Set It Off (1996). The success of both films established her as one of Hollywood’s most recognizable actresses of the late ’90s and early 2000s.

Over the years, Fox starred in films including Booty Call (1997), Why Do Fools Fall in Love (1998), Jason’s Letter (2017) and Fire and Rain (2019). She has also appeared on Empire, competed on Dancing With the Stars and produced and starred in 1-800-Missing, which earned her an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series. In addition to acting, she has produced dozens of television movies and made her directorial debut in 2023 with First Lady of BMF.

Fox married singer Christopher Harvest in 1998 before the pair divorced in 2002. She later dated 50 Cent and was briefly engaged to promoter Omar “Slim” White, though the couple split in 2011.
