Born in England in 1975, Kate Winslet danced in a cereal commercial at the age of 11 and began to study acting professionally as a teenager. At 17, Winslet was cast in the critically acclaimed Heavenly Creatures in 1994 and the following year, she costarred in Sense and Sensibility, which earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

In 2009, the actress was honored with her first Golden Globe trophies -- one for Best Actress in Revolutionary Road and the other for Best Supporting Actress in The Reader.
