Widow's Bay was one of the most nominated shows at the 2026 Emmys — but how many awards did the series win?

The show took home trophies for Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series, Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series during the Monday, September 14, awards ceremony held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

Widow's Bay was nominated for seven awards in total. The Apple TV show, which premiered in April, is set in a fictional New England island town — Widow's Bay — plagued by a centuries-old curse, bringing various supernatural evils to the island.

Matthew Rhys and his costars Kate O'Flynn, Kevin Carroll, Dale Dickey, Kingston Rumi Southwick, Jeff Hiller, Stephen Root, K Callan and more received critical acclaim shortly after the show’s debut. (Widow's Bay scored 19 Emmy nominations in total across the Creative Emmys.)

"[It is an] the interesting question [to consider] how long [the show could go for]," Rhys, 51, told Us in August about what comes next. "It's like Scooby-Doo. How long could you draw an episode of Scooby-Doo? How long does it take for them to figure something out? Or how long does it take for them to try and figure something out before they become buffoons for not figuring it out?"

He continued, "If the audience is going, 'Oh my God, come on! You can see how it's figured out!' Then you've lost them. So I don't know but it could be quite finite."

Rhys noted he could see the series branching out with spinoffs — and an anthology twist.

"I pitched that actually. You go back to the '60s and I'm a mayor. And the 40s and the 1890s," he noted. "Then I'm pretty sure Patricia is going to get her own spinoff or should [get one]."

Looking ahead, Rhys teased he was just as nervous about season 2.

"[Fans should be] terrified. No one is safe. Anyone can be taken down at a moment's notice," Rhys quipped.

The actor assumed that nothing was off the table when it comes to the horror-comedy.

"The game is wide open for a big shocking death where everyone goes, 'Oh my God, I didn't think they would kill off Tom Loftis,'" he teased of his own character. "I have that worry. Present tense."

The 2026 Emmys honored multiple stars we lost this year, but not everyone was included in the In Memoriam.

Parton, who won her sole Emmy in 2021 for Outstanding Television Movie as an executive producer for Dolly Parton's Christmas on the Square, died last month following a brief battle with an undisclosed form of cancer. She was 80.

Two-time Emmy winner O'Hara, meanwhile, died from a pulmonary embolism in January at 71 while Rob and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were fatally stabbed in their home last December at 78 and 70, respectively.

While Monday's touching live tribute paid tribute to multiple fallen celebrities, it did omit a few late stars, including Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Nicholas Brendon and Lilo & Stitch's Daveigh Chase. However, their names were featured as part of a longer dedication on the Emmys’ official website.

In March, Brendon died in his sleep at age 54. His cause of death was later ruled as atherosclerotic and hypertensive cardiovascular disease with a blockage in the right coronary artery.

Three month after Brendon's death, news broke that Chase died while she was in the hospital battling meningitis and an infection in her blood that led to sepsis. She was 35. Her cause of death was later confirmed as acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) while other significant conditions included chronic polysubstance use.

On the day of the 2026 Emmys, news broke that legendary fashion and costume designer Bob Mackie died. He was 87.

“It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that Mr. Bob Mackie passed away today,” read a statement via Mackie’s official Instagram account on Monday. “He lived his 87 years to the fullest, fulfilling his dream of being a Fashion and Costume Designer, which is all he ever wanted to do. His genius and extraordinary designs will live on forever, continuing to bring beauty into this world.”

Mackie was featured in the televised segment and on the Emmys' dedication via its website.

The Pitt, Hacks, Widow's Bay and Paradise are some of the shows that received the most nominations at the 2026 Emmys — but which show had the most wins?

Widow's Bay came out on top while The Pitt and Pluribus came in second with most wins. Abbott Elementary, Shrinking, Slow Horses and The Diplomat, meanwhile, all received five major nominations each as well.

The network that came out on top with nominations was HBO and then Netflix.

The Only Murders in the Building cast has left the building — and the 2026 Emmy Awards empty-handed.

Only Murders was up for two trophies during the Primetime Emmys held Monday, September 14, at Los Angeles' Peacock Theater. The Hulu hit was nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series, with Martin Short also earning an individual acting nod. The five-season series was recognized alongside Abbott Elementary, The Bear, Hacks, Margo’s Got Money Troubles, Nobody Wants This, Shrinking and Widow’s Bay for Best Comedy Series, which Widow’s Bay ultimately won.

Short, 76, earned a nomination in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series category alongside Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Wonder Man), Steve Carell (Rooster), Matthew Rhys (Widow’s Bay) and Jason Segel (Shrinking). Rhys, 51, came out victorious. After his loss, Short pretended to rip up an acceptance speech as the Widow's Bay star took the stage.

Only Murders stars Short, Steve Martin and Selena Gomez as an unlikely trio who team up to investigate the mysterious deaths of their neighbors inside their New York City apartment building. Since its premiere, Only Murders has earned 21 nominations and seven wins.

The show was also nominated for Outstanding Contemporary Costumes for a Series, Outstanding Production Design For A Narrative Program (Half-Hour) and Outstanding Casting for a Comedy Series at the Creative Arts Emmys earlier this month but lost all its respective categories. (Margo’s Got Money Troubles won the wardrobe award, with the Widow’s Bay creative team receiving the other two honors.)

Short, Martin, 81, and Gomez, 34, are currently in production for a sixth season of Only Murders, which will be set across the pond in England.

“I’m proud of lots of things about Only Murders, but one of the things I’m proudest of is the perception of it,” Short told Deadline last month. “It’s one of the loosest, happiest sets that any guest star guests on. And we get these reviews from all these famous people endlessly like, ‘Oh my God, I had the best time.’”

For season 6, the Arconia trio will be joined by the likes of David Tennant, Nicola Coughlan, Martin Freeman, Olivia Colman and Geri Halliwell-Horner.

“What’s crazy is the level of the British actors we’re working with. It’s insane,” Short gushed to the outlet. “I mean, one day it’s Olivia Colman, and then David Tennant, and then it’s Martin Freeman, and then it’s Jennifer Saunders. It’s just, as Harry Shearer once said, ‘The crème de la cream.’”

Should Only Murders return for a potential season 7, the show will reportedly head back to NYC.

Only Murders in the Building season 6 premieres on Hulu Tuesday, December 8.

Sarah Michelle Gellar offered a rare look at her lower back tattoo at the 2026 Emmy Awards.

The Buffy the Vampire Slayer star, 49, turned heads in a hot pink Versace dress with a dramatically low open back and a thigh-high slit on the red carpet at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Monday, September 14, completing her look with silver Jimmy Choo platform heels.

The dress’ open back offered a peek at the two dragon fly tattoos on Gellar’s lower back. (Gellar also has a heart pierced by a dagger on her right ankle while there are cherry blossoms on a green vine and a Chinese kanji character on her left ankle.)

Buffy fans were treated to an unexpected cast reunion on the red carpet at the Emmys as Gellar posed with former costar David Boreanaz. Unlike their TV counterparts, star-crossed lovers Buffy Summers and immortal vampire Angel, Gellar and Boreanaz, 57, were all smiles.

“We are so back,” Gellar captioned a photo of her red carpet reunion.

Gellar and Boreanaz’s Emmys selfie comes on the heels of the disappointing announcement that a Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival series will not be happening.

Despite previous skepticism about returning to the franchise, Gellar agreed to take part in a spinoff from writers Nora and Lilla Zuckerman and Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao. Gellar filmed a pilot for Hulu with newcomer Ryan Kiera Armstrong, who was cast as the next generation of slayers.

One year after the project was first announced in February 2025, Gellar revealed in March that Hulu declined to move forward with the pilot.

“We had an executive on our show who was not only not a fan of the original, but was proud to constantly remind us that he had never seen the entirety of the series and how it wasn’t for him,” she told People later that month. “That’s very hard when you’re taking a property that is as beloved as Buffy, not just to the world, but to me and Chloé.”

Gellar added, “So that tells you the uphill battle that we had been fighting since day one, when your executive is literally proud to tell you that he didn’t watch it.”

Disney — which owns Hulu — released a statement to explain why the streamer opted to pass on the highly-anticipated Buffy reboot.

“We have had a long and very successful relationship with Chloé [Zhao], Sarah [Michelle Gellar] and Gail [Berman] — their track records speak for themselves and they are incredible partners,” a company spokesperson said in March. “Our decision not to move forward with a series order is not a reflection of our respect and admiration for the creative team, including Lilla and Nora.”

The original Buffy the Vampire Slayer series — which was based on a 1992 cult classic movie starring Kristy Swanson in the title role — aired from 1997 to 2003.

While The Pitt failed to clean house at the 2026 Emmy Awards, there's no doubt the hit series is continuing it's reign over Hollywood.

The beloved HBO medical drama took home six Emmys by the end of this year’s 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, held at the Peacock Theater in Downtown Los Angeles on Monday, September 14, including two prestigious awards presented during the live ceremony.

Star Noah Wyle took home an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama series for a second year in a row, while the show also snagged its second award of the evening for Best Drama. “This is overwhelming,” Wyle told the crowd while accepting his award. “I have to acknowledge the work of my fellow nominees. Your work is inspirational. I watch you, I learn from you. In particular, Mr. [Gary] Oldman: I have to tell you, I don’t know if there’s an actor my age [who didn’t] look at Sid and Nancy and think, ‘That’s the benchmark that I want to hit one day in my career.’ ”

The acclaimed series — following a group of employees at a fictional Pittsburgh hospital’s emergency room working a single 15-hour shift, one hour per episode — is no stranger to success. After the show’s January 9, 2025, debut, the series has won several high-profile awards. Katherine LeNasa won for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 2025, while Wyle won a 2025 Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.

LaNasa — who stars alongside Wyle, Patrick Ball, Supriya Ganesh, Fiona Dourif, Taylor Dearden, Gerran Howell and Shabana Azeez — exclusively opened up to Us on Wednesday, September 9, about the process of portraying beloved charge nurse Dana, revealing that her previous cancer battle played a major role in how she brought the character to life. (Ganesh has since left the series.)

“When I had cancer, I was really surprised at how kind the nurses were to me in that hospital and — and just in general, everyone at Piedmont in Atlanta [were] incredibly kind and it mattered so much,” LaNasa, 59, exclusively told Us on Wednesday, September 9. “All the little details mattered, whether they brought you a warm blanket before a screening or if they really took the time that maybe. Maybe the doctor took extra time to explain what was happening, [or] another nurse took extra time to explain what was happening. All those little considerations and those moments of compassion mattered so much.”

LeNasa was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer in February 2023, writing in an essay for Women’s Health that her diagnosis “hit her like a ton of bricks.” She underwent surgery and three weeks of daily radiation treatments, suffering complications that required several visits to a local emergency room before she was eventually diagnosed cancer-free.

“I was able to bring that into Dana — that knowledge. And also, I was really connected with how scary it is going into the hospital when you’re getting radiation,” she told Us. “You’re going to the hospital regularly, and so I got to be in touch with what it felt like to be a patient. I think that informed the way I played Dana as well.”

Human remains found partially submerged below a Northern California bridge have been identified as a woman who hasn’t been seen in more than two decades.

The remains discovered beneath the Parrotts Ferry Bridge in Calaveras County in 2015 belong to Anita Kathleen Ranker, cold case investigators have confirmed.

Ranker, who was born in Santa Clara County, would’ve been 57 years old today, according to the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office.

“After more than a decade of remaining nameless, this identification represents a significant breakthrough in a case that had gone cold,” the sheriff’s office said in a Monday, September 14, news release.

In 2015, Ranker’s remains became partially visible “due to the historically low, drought-era level of the Stanislaus River beneath the Parrotts Ferry Bridge,” authorities said.

Although there was significant “degradation” of the remains as a result of being underwater for years, authorities could confirm they belonged to a woman, who they suspected was likely killed, according to the sheriff’s office.

Before Ranker was positively identified, investigators referred to her as “Parrotts Ferry Jane Doe.”

Investigators believe Ranker vanished sometime before 2000, and had been living in or near Murphys ahead of her death.

“She was never reported missing, and a person of interest has been identified,” the sheriff’s office said.

After the case went cold following the initial discovery of Ranker’s remains, authorities revisited the investigation in 2021, when forensic science had become more advanced.

“Over the ensuing years, the remains were sent to numerous laboratories, each using cutting-edge technology to attempt to extract DNA suitable for Forensic Genetic Genealogy,” the sheriff’s office said.

A breakthrough in the investigation came this past June, when a California-based forensic laboratory extracted usable DNA from the remains. The DNA was then linked to Ranker’s family members.

Her relatives subsequently gave DNA samples, which resulted in investigators confirming Ranker’s identity, according to the sheriff’s office.

Authorities continue to investigate Anita’s death and have identified a person of interest, the agency said. The person’s identity wasn’t specified by law enforcement.

“Every unidentified person represents a family, friends, and a life story that deserves to be known,” Calaveras County Sheriff Rachelle Whiting said in a statement.

The sheriff’s office is encouraging anyone with information related to Ranker's case to contact the agency at (209) 754-6500 or submit anonymous tips by calling the office’s tip line at (209) 754-6030.

Calaveras County is about an 80-mile drive southeast from Sacramento.

Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette walked away with only one award at the 2026 Emmys.

The FX show won Outstanding Casting for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie (Courtney Bright, Nicole Daniels and Jennifer Brooks) during the 78th annual Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards on September 6.

However, Love Story lost the other five categories it was nominated in, two of which were presented during the main Emmys ceremony at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Monday, September 14: Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series; Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie (Sarah Pidgeon); Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie (Constance Zimmer); Outstanding Period Costumes (Rudy Mance, Natalie Turturro Mettouchi, Brittany Griffin, Moria Sine Clinton and Liz Samuels); and Outstanding Period or Fantasy/Sci-Fi Makeup, Non-Prosthetic (Milagros Medina-Cerdeira, Blair Aycock, D'angelo Thompson and Jill Karol).

The nine-episode series starred Paul Anthony Kelly and Pidgeon, 30, as John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, respectively. (Zimmer, 55, played Bessette's mother, Ann Messina Freeman.)

Love Story, which aired from February to March, chronicled the real-life couple's whirlwind romance and untimely deaths in a 1999 plane crash.

Pidgeon received her first Emmy nomination for her portrayal of the fashion icon, but the Television Academy did not nominate Kelly, 37, for his turn as the businessman son of late President John F. Kennedy and first lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. (Love Story marked Kelly's professional acting debut.)

"Of course, I was hoping that everyone — especially Paul — would be recognized," Pidgeon told Variety in July of her costar's snub. "Something I learned is that film, TV and theater, all of it really takes a village. It's not a solo show; it's not a solo performance. It all makes sense in some of its parts, and working with Paul Anthony Kelly was such a dream every single day — from the moment he walked into the audition room, and then every single day through a six-month long shoot, seeing his evolution of John. To see the ease that he had on set and this transformation that he was able to take on, it was something I admire so much. Hats off to Paul."

She added, "I would love to work with him and everyone on the show 10 times over, and I'm so excited to see all of the future recognition that everyone gets."

Shades of red and purple took over the carpet during TV’s biggest night, which was held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Monday, September 14. Take host Mariska Hargitay, who wore a ruby red gown by Monse. Her sexy ensemble featured off-the-shoulder straps, a sweetheart neckline, all-over sequins and a thigh-high slit complete with a detailed train.

Brooks Nader also channeled her Baywatch character, Selene, in a stunning sequin look with a keyhole cutout over her chest. Her look was complete with halter straps that criss crossed over her décolletage and a bodycon silhouette. The Sports Illustrated star styled her look with matching heels and diamond rings.

Jessica Williams was another star who stunned in a purple Honor dress. Her trendy look featured a semi-sheer bodice, underwire cups and a tiered skirt embellished with silver detailing. She styled her look with silver rings and matching earrings.

Michael J. Fox was honored at the 2026 Emmy Awards with a prestigious award amid his ongoing battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Fox, 65, accepted the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award at the ceremony on Monday, September 14, in recognition of his contributions to Parkinson’s disease research and advocacy through his Michael J. Fox Foundation.

Julianna Margulies, Fox's The Good Wife costar, presented the award to the legendary actor, who appeared on stage in a wheelchair while wearing a black suit. Fox received a standing ovation and hearty applause as he thanked the Television Academy for the award, calling the accolade a "humbling honor." He also paid tribute to the award's namesake, describing Hope, who died in 2003, as a "selfless" champion for people in need. Fox noted that he's "proud" of the progress that the Michael J. Fox Foundation has made towards finding a cure for Parkinson's disease.

Fox was previously announced as the winner of the award in a July press release from the Television Academy.

“[Fox] has spoken and written extensively about his predisposition to look at challenges, including his Parkinson’s disease, through a lens of optimism and humor,” the announcement read.

The Bob Hope Humanitarian Award was created in 2002 to “honor a member of the telecommunications industry whose philanthropic efforts exemplify Bob Hope’s own decades-long altruism and positive impact on society,” the press release continued. “The award is given by the Television Academy and the Bob & Dolores Hope Foundation to an individual in the television industry whose humanitarian efforts have brought credit to the industry and whose deeds and actions have had a lasting impact on society.”

In addition to receiving the Humanitarian Award, Fox was nominated for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as Gerry, a Parkinson's patient who bonds with Harrison Ford’s Paul, in AppleTV’s Shrinking.

In 1998, Fox publicly disclosed that he had been diagnosed with young-onset Parkinson’s disease. Two years later, he founded The Michael J. Fox Foundation, which has become the world’s largest nonprofit funder of Parkinson’s research and has supported more than $3 billion in research programs.

“[I knew] my name could attract attention to help us achieve our goals faster. But I also have this disease. I know the issues and I share my community’s sense of urgency,” Fox, who retired from full-time acting in 2020 amid his health battle, told People ahead of the Emmys. “Of course, things have gotten harder over the years. I’m privileged to commit my time and energy to bringing everything I’ve got to help cure this disease.”

United States Rep. Nancy Mace said Lindsay Clancy should be “publicly executed” after her trial for killing her three kids ended with a hung jury.

Mace, 48, made the comments while discussing Clancy's case and her attorney Kevin Reddington’s push to have the murder charges against her resolved without having to go to another trial.

The South Carolina congresswoman told TMZ on Monday, September 14, that Clancy, 36, should be publicly executed for killing her kids, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, in January 2023. "Her children are dead. She should be dead too,” she said.

“She should get the death penalty,” Mace told the outlet before adding that it should be a “public execution.”

The Republican politician went on to say that Clancy “deserved nothing less” than the death penalty because she killed her kids. “It could be by firearm, it could be electric chair. I don’t really care. Not an injection,” Mace said of how she would like the execution to happen.

After calling Clancy a “serial killer,” Mace doubled down that the execution should be “public.”

“Be a warning to women everywhere, you don’t kill your kids,” she said.

“Look at the crime we have in this country. If people can get away with murdering children, what else can they do?” she continued. “There are no rules, there are no laws.”

Earlier in the conversation, Mace slammed Reddington for asking President Donald Trump to pardon Clancy shortly after the trial.

“He knows as an attorney in the state of Massachusetts, you can’t ask for a federal pardon for a state case,” she said. “It doesn’t take a lawyer to figure that out.”

After saying she thought the request was a “publicity stunt,” Mace said it was “nasty” and “ugly” for Reddington to ask Trump, 80, for the pardon.

“He wants sympathy for his client being in a wheelchair. Her children are dead. She should be dead too,” Mace said.

Sen. Mitch McConnell has returned to Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. three months after being hospitalized for a medical emergency.

“Today, I’ll cast my first Senate vote since I took a bad fall back in June,” McConnell, 84, revealed in a statement on Monday, September 14. “I’m really looking forward to being back on the Senate floor and seeing my colleagues.”

He continued, “My recovery has been a long and often frustrating process, and the lingering effects of childhood polio haven’t made it any easier. I’m still not quite back to 100%, but I’ve assured Leader [John Thune] that, as I continue with physical therapy on the advice of my doctors, I will do my best to be present for tough votes when our Conference needs me.”

“[My wife] Elaine [Chao] and I are very grateful for all the continued well wishes from our fellow Kentuckians, and I’m glad to get back to more of business as usual on their behalf this month,” his statement concluded.

McConnell subsequently cast a vote to advance the nomination of Matthew Byrne to become U.S. district judge for the Southern District of Ohio, per NBC News. (Senate records suggest that McConnell had not cast a vote since June 11 before Monday’s appearance in the Senate chambers. )

“[It’s] time to get back to work, finish the job for this Congress,” he told reporters.

He was seen traveling through the halls of the U.S. Capitol building, giving a thumbs-up to reporters who asked about his condition.

The Kentucky Senator was reportedly found unconscious at his Washington D.C. residence on June 14, per multiple media outlets. (McConnell had previously been hospitalized in February after experiencing flu-like symptoms.)

McConnell’s spokesperson, Stephanie Penn, initially said on July 1 that the politician was “working closely with staff on Senate business and Kentucky matters as he continues his recovery” while also confirming he would not cast a vote that week.

Conspiracy theories about McConnell’s health spread throughout right-wing social media circles, prompting his staff to release a photo of the senator with his wife Chao, 73, at his bedside on July 12.

Accompanying the so-called “proof of life” photo was a new statement from McConnell explaining that his hospitalization was prompted by a fall at his home.

I don’t have any tumors or hemorrhages,” McConnell said in a statement on July 12. “But I was briefly unconscious and was taken to the hospital. While receiving excellent care over the past several weeks, I’ve also had to deal with a mild case of pneumonia.”

He added, “In fact, with signs of continued progress, I’ve been able to move from hospital care to a rehabilitation center where I’ll keep regaining my strength.”

Rumors about McConnell’s health continued to swirl over the next several weeks, especially after he confirmed on July 27 that he wasn’t yet ready to leave rehab.

“I’m still working hard to get back to my full schedule of work in the Senate and in Kentucky, keeping up with intense physical therapy per my doctors’ orders. Unfortunately, that means I won’t be able to make it to Fancy Farm, Kentucky this Saturday,” he announced. “There’s no place I’d rather be on the first Saturday in August than with the good people of western Kentucky, feasting on pork and mutton.”

“Since his discharge from hospital care, he has maintained a strenuous course of physical therapy and rehabilitation, including multiple sessions a day designed to rebuild strength and reduce the risk of future falls,” his staff’s July 27 statement read. “His bout with childhood polio continues to be a significant factor in his mobility. He is not yet medically cleared to leave the rehab facility and return to the office.”

The former Senate Majority Leader was released from rehab on August 6.

McConnell, who was elected in 1984, has served in the Senate for 41 years. He will retire at the end of 2026.

John Mulaney had the first bleeped moment of the night at the 2026 Emmy Awards.

The comedian, 44, took to the stage at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Monday, September 14, to present the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. This year’s winner follows in the footsteps of Seth Rogen, who won the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series during the 2025 awards show for his role as Matt Remick The Studio. Brown (Paradise), Gary Oldman (Slow Horses), Mark Ruffalo (Task) and Rufus Sewell (The Diplomat).

During the live telecast, which took place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Monday, September 14, the cast of Baywatch announced that The Traitors was deserving of an Emmy for its contribution to the always-growing reality TV genre.

The Traitors appears to be a favorite with Emmy voters after winning in 2024 and 2025. The Peacock reality show features nearly 20 contestants playing the ultimate murder mystery game.

Filmed at an ancient castle in Scotland, a group of “faithful” contestants must try to detect and eliminate the “traitors” before getting murdered or eliminated from the game.

“I think the basic premise of the game — that the audience knows who the baddies are straightaway — means that you dispense with the usual guessing game of whodunnit and you focus more on observing people under stress and seeing how they cope with sometimes having to do things they don’t like or aren’t that good at,” Cumming told Variety in January of the show’s success. “We all lie, but we don’t always get to witness people doing it.”

He’s also grateful that the show embraces production value and the campiness of the series.

Rhea Seehorn took the stage after winning Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series at the 2026 Emmy Awards.

Seehorn, 54, was honored for her role as Carol Sturka in Pluribus during the ceremony, held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Monday, September 14.

Coon, 45, was previously nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 2024 for her character Bertha Russell in The Gilded Age. She’s received four total Emmy nods since 2017.

Infiniti, 26, received her first ever Emmy nomination for her role in The Testaments, a Hulu drama series based on the sequel to the novel "The Handmaid’s Tale" by Margaret Atwood.

It was the first time Seehorn was nominated in the category for her role as Carol Sturka in the Apple TV sci-fi series Pluribus. She previously received three Emmy nominations, including two for her character Kim Wexler in Better Call Saul.

At last year’s 77th Emmy Awards, Britt Lower won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Helly Riggs/Helena in the science fiction thriller series Severance.

Jean Smart is walking away from the  2026 Emmy Awards with some hardware after winning Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series .

Smart, 75, earned a standing ovation as she took to the stage to accept the award for the fifth time for her role in HBO Max's hit comedy series Hacks. She thanked her children and team before becoming emotional, turning her attention to her costars following the show's \end after five seasons.

In addition to Smart, the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series category was made up of Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary), Ayo Edebiri (The Bear), Elle Fanning (Margo’s Got Money Troubles) and Lisa Kudrow (The Comeback).

Smart, Brunson, 36, and Edebiri, 30, are all repeat Emmy nominees in the category.

Smart took home the award in 2025, as well as in 2024, 2022 and 2021.

Abbott Elementary, which premiered on ABC in 2021, stars Brunson as Janine Teagues, a teacher at Willard R. Abbott Elementary School in Philadelphia. The series has earned 37 Emmy nominations and four wins.

Edebiri stars in FX’s The Bear, which ran for five seasons from 2021 to this June, as young sous chef Sydney "Syd" Adamu, who works under Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White) at an Italian beef restaurant in NYC. The series has accumulated 57 Emmy nominations and 21 wins.

Margo’s Got Money Troubles debuted in 2026 on AppleTV and stars Fanning, 28, as Margo Millet, the daughter of a Hooters waitress, Shyanne (Michelle Pfeiffer), and a former professional wrestler, Jinx (Nick Offerman). After becoming pregnant by her English professor (Michael Angarano), Margo turns to OnlyFans to financially support herself. In addition to Lead Actress, the series was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Comedy Series.

The Comeback made its return to HBO for a third and final season in May, more than 10 years after season 2. The mockumentary series stars Kudrow, 63, as Valerie Cherish, a fading 1990s sitcom star who attempts to revive her career with a documentary. The Comeback received six Emmy nods throughout its run, including two this year.

Overall, the medical drama The Pitt led the 2026 Emmys with 25 nominations, followed by Hacks with 24, Widow’s Bay with 19, Pluribus with 18, Beef with 16 and DTF St. Louis with 13.

Mariska Hargitay made the 2026 Emmy Awards a night to remember — beginning with a slightly familiar opening monologue.

"I am truly deeply moved and so incredibly grateful to be in a room full of people who have dedicated their lives to telling stories," Hargitay, 62, said at the beginning of the Monday, September 14, awards show, pretending to get emotional. Hargitay's speech parodied nominee Nicole Kidman's now-viral AMC commercial, which starts with the line, "We come to this place for magic."

Hargitay, however, jokingly refused to stop her version, adding, "Zip it, movie lady! It's TV's turn tonight!"

Hargitay hosted the Emmys, held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, for the first time on Monday. She's the first woman to host television's biggest night in 15 years.

“Bringing important stories into the light has been the heartbeat of my career,” the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star said in a July statement. “It’s my great honor to host the 78th Emmy Awards — in the 100th birthday year of my beloved NBC — and celebrate this extraordinary community of storytellers.”

Hargitay is a three-time Emmy winner herself, first taking home the trophy for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series in 2006 for her role as Detective Olivia Benson on SVU. She earned two more awards during the 2026 Creative Arts Emmys earlier this month: Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special and Outstanding Directing for a Documentary/Nonfiction Program, both for My Mom Jayne. (Hargitay’s directorial debut chronicled her relationship with her late mother, actress Jayne Mansfield.)

“I’m utterly overwhelmed, as you can imagine,” Hargitay said in her September 5 acceptance speech. “I just wanted to share with you that it took me a while when I decided to make this film during the pandemic [in 2020], and then I started in 2022. It took me a while to realize that this was my story to tell. I didn’t think that I could direct it, and so I just want to add something to Gloria [Steinem]'s pointer and that is about telling your own story.”

The feminist icon, who died earlier in September at age 92, had urged viewers to “tell your own story” in her Famous Last Words interview, which was filmed in February 2025 and aired following her death.

“I just want that invitation to go out, especially to women,” Hargitay tearfully added. “I’m so excited to explore and to discover and to innovate new ways of hearing stories from half the world’s population because we don’t hear from you nearly enough. And I can’t wait to get to know you. Thank you, this is meaningful.”

Jon Hamm and wife Anna Osceola stepped out for a date night at the 2026 Emmy Awards one month after news broke that they’re expecting their first baby.

Hamm, 55, sported a black suit as he walked the red carpet outside the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Monday, September 14. Osceola, 38, wore a drapey black-and-white chevron-patterned dress with a high neck for the occasion and cradled her baby bump as she posed alongside her husband ahead of the awards show.

Multiple outlets reported in August that Osceola is pregnant with her and Hamm’s first child. In photos obtained by the Daily Mail at the time, the Your Friends & Neighbors actress showed off her baby bump in a bikini during a getaway with the Mad Men star to the Hamptons.

Hamm and Osceola met while filming Mad Men’s series finale in 2015, when she played receptionist Clementine. (Hamm starred in the AMC drama as Don Draper from 2007 to 2015.)

Nearly seven months before the awards show, news broke in February that Short's daughter had been found dead at the age of 42.

"It is with profound grief that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short," read a statement from the Saturday Night Live alum's rep. "The Short family is devastated by this loss and asks for privacy at this time. Katherine was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world."

Katherine's death was eventually ruled a suicide. According to an autopsy report obtained by Us in May, Short called one of his daughter's friends to "check on her welfare" after he hadn't heard from her in "over 24 hours."

The report indicated that there were "multiple notes" at the scene presumably left by Katherine. Her friend discovered the notes and called 911.

According to the Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner's summary, Katherine "had a history of depression and other mental health illnesses." She tested positive for benzodiazepines at the time of her death.

In May, Short spoke about his daughter's death for the first time in depth during an interview with CBS Sunday Morning.

Stephen Colbert looked almost unrecognizable with a beard while celebrating The Late Show's nomination at the 2026 Emmy Awards months after the program came to an end.

The timing of the announcement was met with intense skepticism, as the decision to cancel the program came shortly after Colbert spoke out about Paramount, CBS’ parent company, settling what he called “a nuisance lawsuit” brought by President Donald Trump.

In his lawsuit, the president alleged that 60 Minutes had unfairly edited an interview of Kamala Harris.

"I do not dispute their rationale [that it was for financial reasons],” Colbert told The New York Times in April when asked about viewers who are questioning the reason for his late night talk show coming to an end. “I do make jokes about it."

The comedian said he could see both sides of the argument.

"But I also completely understand why people would say (A) that doesn’t make sense to me and (B) that seems fishy to me," he noted. "Because the network did it to themselves by bending the knee to the Trump administration over a $20 billion, settled for $16 million, completely frivolous lawsuit.”

Demi Lovato's ex-fiancé, Max Ehrich, found himself in legal trouble when he was arrested for possession of nitrous oxide while at a shopping center in Florida.

Ehrich, 35, was booked on August 25, according to the arrest affidavit obtained by Us on Monday, September 14. Officers said that Ehrich called 911, but hung up after the dispatcher picked up.

Officers drove out to the scene and found Ehrich in the bushes. He reportedly had a plastic bag with him that contained a large container of Nitrous Oxide E942, which was labeled "Max Cream Charger." Authorities added that Ehrich appeared "dazed and showed a lack of balance when standing” when he was located, per the affidavit.

Ehrich allegedly told officers that he wanted to get medicine at his parents' home, but he did not feel comfortable going to their house. He also said that he had no plans to hurt himself.

Authorities got in touch with his parents, who told them that Ehrich is addicted to nitrous oxide. Ehrich was then arrested for possession of nitrous oxide.

In the affidavit, police noted that they did not witness Ehrich using or inhaling the nitrous oxide. However, they said that "the nozzle being attached suggested that the canister was likely being used" before they arrived at the scene.

Following his arrest, Ehrich was taken to the hospital because he claimed he did not feel well. He was later transported to the jail and was released soon after when he posted bond.

Ehrich has a history of legal issues, and he was previously arrested in October 2025 on charges of domestic violence against a family member. It was later reported that he attacked his mother, Rhonda Ehrich.

Multiple reports stated that Rhonda had told responding officers that she and Max had gotten into a fight over her phone and she claimed he consumed nitrous oxide before he turned violent.
He was released from jail after he posted a $1,000 bond.

Rhonda, for her part, issued a statement via Instagram after his arrest to share her side of the story.

"The only villain in this is the fact that my son was kidnapped and forced to ingest a dangerous substance. My son is my best friend and one of the best people I know," she wrote in a statement at the time. "He now is in rehab and he is getting the treatment he needs."

She added, "A mother knows who their son is and isn't. Those who know the real Max Ehrich know him for the kind, respectful, loving and talented young man that I'm proud to say is my incredible inspirational, brilliant, clean living amazing son. Max is devastated and extremely apologetic that the world had to watch him fall from grace."

A rep for Max did not immediately respond to Us’ request for comment regarding his arrests.

Alyson Hannigan, Anthony Head and Nicholas Brendon also starred. (Head and Brendon both died earlier this year.)

Boreanez, meanwhile, brought the role of Angel during the show's run from 1997 to 2003. He subsequently starred in a spinoff that ran for five seasons on the same network. As Buffy's first love, Boreanez's character often found himself at odds with James Marsters' Spike, who was also smitten with the vampire slayer.

Gellar previously reflected on Buffy's success two and a half decades after its premiere.

"25 years ago today I had the honor to introduce the world to my version of Buffy Anne Summers. It was an uphill battle," she wrote via Instagram in 2022. "A mid season replacement, on a new network based on a movie, that was by no means a giant success."

More recently, Gellar attempted to revive Buffy with a reboot set to air on Hulu. The show, titled, Buffy: New Sunnydale, starred Ryan Kiera Armstrong as the new slayer. Disney addressed the claims that same month, saying in a statement, “We have had a long and very successful relationship with Chloé [Zhao], Sarah [Michelle Gellar] and Gail [Berman] — their track records speak for themselves and they are incredible partners. Our decision not to move forward with a series order is not a reflection of our respect and admiration for the creative team, including Lilla and Nora.”

Gellar threw shade at the decision on Monday while presenting an award with Boreanaz. She quipped that viewers will never know if their characters will end up together as the audience visibly reacted.

2026 Emmy Awards host Mariska Hargitay was a vision in red on the red carpet with the full support of her family.

Hargitay, 62, stunned in a fitted beaded gown with a completely feathered skirt ahead of the Monday, September 14, ceremony at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Her 15-year-old daughter, Amaya, wore a mini matching version.

The mother-daughter duo were joined by Hargitay’s husband, Peter Hermann, and the couple’s sons, August, 20, and Andrew, 14.

Steinem, who died on September 2 at the age of 92, had encouraged individuals to “tell your own story” in a Famous Last Words interview that aired following her death.

The GoFundMe had raised over $5,000 at the time of this story’s publication. 

Todd manages the Litter Box Cats blog, which has been tirelessly reporting on the Panthers since 2008. In 2023, Todd launched a separate GoFundMe after being informed the site could no longer be managed or monetized by its parent company. 

“[Litter Box Cats] may not be the biggest sports internet site, but over the years we have built a nice, mostly polite community that loves Panthers hockey,” he shared. “I intend to keep that community alive, and that is where you come in. We know that there will be some costs involved to build a new home for all of us — for all of you. So your assistance is needed.”

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives just lost another cast member after Mikayla Matthews confirmed her decision to exit the show due to Taylor Frankie Paul's involvement.

"I made my decision over a week ago, after hearing some news, that I will not be continuing the show at this moment ❤️," Mikayla, 26, who joined the cast in season 1, wrote via Instagram on Monday, September 14.

Mikayla clarified that her choice was related to Taylor, 32.

"I’ve said from the beginning of this that I’m not comfortable being a part of something that continues to platform behavior I don’t agree especially given my own experience growing up in a home with multiple forms of abuse," she continued. "There’s no amount of money worth going against my morals or changing the stance I’ve had since I first saw and heard the things that made me feel this strongly."

Despite how The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives helped Mikayla "provide" for her family, she made it clear she wasn't returning as the cast continues to film season 6.

"This show has been a huge part of my life and has helped me provide for my family. I’m so grateful for the experience, and will continue sharing my story, my health and advocating for myself and others ❤️," she wrote. "This shouldn’t be 'relatable' or entertainment in anyway."

The post concluded: "Supporting an ADULT doesn’t mean constantly making excuses for toxic behavior while giving unconditional sympathy and grace with zero accountability or change. I was in that enabling cycle for years, and I’m not going to be a part of that again!🫶🏼 love you all."

Mikayla has been publicly at odds with Taylor after news broke in March that production on season 5 was paused due to an alleged incident between Taylor and her ex Dakota Mortensen that occurred one month prior. Dakota, 33, and Taylor subsequently filed temporary restraining orders against each other, with Dakota earning temporary custody of their 2-year-old son, Ever. Taylor was granted supervised visits until their next court hearing.

Making and editing videos is my way of processing just like people who like to write into a journal," she wrote via Instagram in April. “This is my way and I choose to share it. Saying this with love, most people would need to get off and [that is] so understandable. I’m not most.”

Dakota also issued his own statement.

“Over the past several weeks, I’ve taken a step back and had time away from the chaos. That space has been a breath of fresh air and has given me clarity. A Florida woman charged in the death of her 3-month-old infant blamed co-sleeping for her son’s death despite evidence showing she allegedly contributed to his fatal injury.

A ring Jessica Vlasac, 42, had been wearing was ultimately linked to her son’s fatal head injuries, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, which said there was “no evidence of co-sleeping causing the death.”

A medical examiner, Dr. Stephen Nelson, found during an autopsy that the baby had hemorrhaging around his skull and “three separate impact injuries” to his forehead, the sheriff’s office said in a Friday, September 11, news release.

The doctor also found an “L-shaped injury to the baby’s forehead, which he stated appeared to be consistent with being caused by a square-like object,” according to the agency.

This injury was “consistent with” a “large, diamond-like stone ring” worn by Vlasac during an interview conducted after her son’s autopsy, according to the agency.

Deputies had arrived at Vlasac’s home the evening of September 6 in response to a report of her son being unresponsive. The boy was subsequently pronounced deceased after arriving at Orlando Health Medical in Lakeland.

“He had an abrasion and bruising on his head,” authorities said.

Vlasac told deputies that she had fallen asleep with her baby in bed by accident and that she had no memory of anything else before she reportedly found him face down, unresponsive and “cold to the touch,” according to the sheriff’s office.

“She made statements such as, ‘I think I killed our son,’ and said she believed it happened while she was asleep,” the agency said.

Following the baby’s autopsy, detectives executed a search warrant to obtain the mother’s devices and the ring she had been wearing at the time of the infant’s death, according to the sheriff’s office.

During the execution of the search warrant, Vlasac allegedly asked if her ring killed her infant.

When investigators spoke with the baby’s father, he said Vlasac “becomes violent” when she drinks alcohol, according to authorities.

The father also showed investigators messages exchanged between him and Vlasac that indicated she bought alcoholic shots the afternoon before her baby died, the sheriff’s office said.

“Later that night, she sent multiple messages stating that she had killed the infant and that he was dead,” the agency said.

Vlasac is accused of deleting some of the messages implicating her involvement and knowledge of the infant’s death, and instructing the deceased child’s father to keep their messages private from law enforcement.

During a subsequent examination, the medical examiner viewed Vlasac’s ring and determined the baby’s injuries were likely caused by being hit by the ring, according to authorities.

Vlasac was arrested Thursday, September 10, on an aggravated child abuse charge, the sheriff’s office said.

Information on whether she had retained legal counsel wasn’t immediately available.
