New Jersey Devils captain Nic Hischier is being lauded for helping save a family with two young children when they encountered trouble while on an inflatable raft near the Engehalde Weir dam in Switzerland.

Hischier, 27, was boating in the area at the time, when he spotted the family being pulled toward the dam and unable to get out on their own. Authorities were called and the Devils captain rushed to the scene, where a witness described his actions as “heroic,” according to Swiss outlet 20Minuten.

“In this situation, everyone is grateful for support, and we were all relieved that no one was hurt in the end,” Hischier told 20Minuten in a story published Thursday, July 9.

He hasn’t said much else about the situation, which reportedly occurred on Saturday, July 4, but Devils reporter Amanda Stein said the story might be “the most Nico story of all time.”

“A rubber dinghy with two adults and two children got into distress for reasons that are still being investigated,” police spokeswoman Sarah Wahlen told 20Minuten. “The police were eventually able to pull the boat ashore using a throw bag, and the four occupants were rescued unharmed.”

Hischier, who was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft, was named team captain for the Devils in 2021, becoming only the 12th player in franchise history to have the honor.

The Devils announced on July 1 that Hischier had signed a five-year, $11.7 million contract extension to stay with the club.

Jack Hughes Preaches Patriotism After Scoring Gold Medal Goal With Missing Teeth

“Since the day he was drafted as the No. 1 overall pick in 2017, Nico Hischier has represented the New Jersey Devils with class, commitment, and a dedication to the community,” Devils managing partner David Blitzer said in a statement at the time. “He puts the team before himself and wants nothing more than to win here in New Jersey. The entire organization is extremely proud that Nico wears the ‘C’ for us, and we couldn’t be happier that he’s signed this contract extension.”

General manager Sunny Mehta added that, despite fan and media speculation, he wanted to keep Hischier in New Jersey, rather than trade him for what would have been a massive haul.

“When I took this job, I knew that Nico was one of the core pieces that I definitely wanted as part of our future,” he said. “The way he plays the game, his leadership, and selflessness are qualities we value for this team. We all look forward to him leading this franchise, on and off the ice, for years to come.”

Former Sacramento State University football player Ivan Garza has died after being struck by a vehicle in his home town of Delano, California, his family confirmed. He was 25.

The accident happened in the early morning hours of Wednesday, July 8, when a vehicle traveling north struck the former offensive lineman while he was crossing the street, according to CBS News.

“Rest in peace, Ivan Garza,” the Hornets wrote via Instagram on Thursday, July 9. “We give our deepest condolences to Ivan’s friends and family. He will be remembered as a wonderful teammate, player, and Hornet.”

The post also linked to a GoFundMe page set up to support his mother, Sandra, as she navigates funeral costs and “financial challenges that come with such a devastating tragedy.” It has raised more than $25,000 as of Friday, July 10.

College Football Player, 20, Unexpectedly Dies on Vacation With Girlfriend

“Ivan will be remembered for the person he was,” the fundraiser’s description reads. “A gentle giant with a kind heart, an infectious smile, and a genuine love for his family, friends, teammates, and everyone fortunate enough to know him.”

The GoFundMe states that Garza died in a “hit-and-run accident,” though that has not been confirmed. CBS reports the driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and was “cooperative,” and that the incident is currently under investigation.

“Nobody knows such a big guy with such a big heart,” his aunt, Sonia Garza, told local CBS affiliate KBAK. “He was a great mentor to everybody. He was a big guy, so everybody automatically looked up to him. And then when they saw that he was good, they looked up to him even more.”

Garza enrolled at Sacramento State in 2019, redshirting his first year. His second season was wiped out entirely by the COVID-19 pandemic, but he finally took the field for the Hornets in 2021 and played three seasons.

Prior to college, he played football at Robert F. Kennedy High School, where he was a four-year varsity player and was also on the basketball and track and field teams.

“He was a success story out of RFK and Delano as a whole,” the school wrote via Facebook. “He showed that big things can come from small places. His heart was as huge as his size. Rest easy young man, you are at peace.”

His former head coach at RFK, Mario Millan, called Garza one of the “stewards” of their program.

“He was a phenomenal student, a phenomenal athlete, earned himself the first Division I scholarship out of Delano, I think, ever,” he said.

“Whether school was hard, as a teenager social life was hard, football was hard, whatever it may be, he always had a smile, he always laughed,” Millan added in a separate interview with ABC.

It’s been a rough week for golfer Scottie Scheffler.

One day after commenting about his receding hairline, Scheffler, 30, missed the cut at a tournament for the first time in four years, failing to advance in the Genesis Scottish Open on Friday, July 10.

That snapped a streak of 78 events and 1,428 days. To put it in perspective, the golfer who now holds the longest streak of making the cut is Matt Fitzpatrick, who has done it only 28 times in a row.

Scheffler’s lackluster play just two weeks after his 30th birthday naturally begged questions about his age, which the golfer opened up about to reporters on Thursday, July 9.

Scottie Scheffler Admits Winning Tournaments Doesn’t Make Life 'Fulfilling'

“I still feel young. Then I look in the mirror, and I’m like, man, I’m getting old,” he said. “Turning 30, now we are in the midst of the season, so I haven’t had much time to sit around.

He continued, ”I feel old sometimes. I feel young. My hair has been receding for years, so 30 is not going to have any effect on that. Yeah, I don’t have a good answer. Wish I had something better. Blame it on the jet lag.”

This isn’t the first time Scheffler’s hair — or lack thereof — has been in the news. Last July, golf equipment company TaylorMade, which sponsors Scheffler, took heat on social media for appearing to photoshop hair on his head in an Instagram post.

“This would be enough for me to leave TM,” one fan wrote in the comments. “So f***ed up to change how the best player in the world looks? Be shallower. Can’t.”

Scottie Scheffler Has Testy Exchange With Caddie at Memorial Championship

Another wrote, “I actually had to come see it for myself. Yikes. It’s not even a good edit I don’t get why do this 🤷🏻‍♂️.”

On Friday, however, Scheffler stayed focused on his play. Despite missing the cut, he has had a strong 2026 and is currently the No. 1 ranked male golfer in the world. In 14 events this year, he has finished in the top 25 in every one, picking up one win, four runner-up finishes and three third-place finishes.

“I’m definitely proud of the consistency,” he told reporters. “And wish I had a couple days over the weekend to make up some ground.”

He added, “It’s a little different now with some of the signature events not having cuts. But you know, this is — I don’t think I finished outside of the top 20 or something like that many times this year.”

San Francisco Giants pitcher Logan Webb has logged off, seemingly permanently.

One day after turning in his second consecutive poor outing on Wednesday, July 8, Webb, 29, got into an argument on X with a team reporter and subsequently deleted his account.

“This team has a leadership void on its roster, a talent void on its roster, and it seems like many of them are checked out. Sad,” KNBR’s Jack Loder wrote via X after the Giants’ 10-0 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday.

The post also included a video where he expanded on the team’s woes, which included Webb’s recent struggles.

Red Sox Star Jarren Duran Deletes Instagram After Attacking Local Reporter

“When someone is supposed to be your ace, you think that they’re going to give you the best chance to win every week,” Loder said. “Logan Webb had an awesome June, he was bad in April, he missed most of May. I’ve said over the years that he’s been a great Giant, like I’ve really appreciated his Giants tenure. But there’s always been a little bit lacking.”

Loder continued, “I think too much of the time, for someone who’s referred to as a bona fide ace … Webb has come up a little bit short. And he might be searching his name on Twitter after the game — who knows — which is never a great look.”

Webb didn’t take kindly to the criticism, responding, “You know what’s sad is they allow people like you in the locker room.”

His outburst came hours after he gave up five runs against the Blue Jays, all in the first inning. Though Webb settled down after that, it followed a seven-run, three-inning performance five days earlier against the last-place Colorado Rockies.

Former MLB Star Noah Syndergaard Calls Out Ex Alex Cooper for ‘Cheap Shot’

Webb’s comment quickly began spreading as Loder quoted the post to double down on his point.

“If you’re wondering where the Giants are at mentally after a 10-0 loss to fall to 16 games under .500⬇️,” he wrote.

Webb began responding to fans in the comments as well.

“Honestly you probably don’t know anything about anything some loser on the couch that couldn’t make his little league team,” he wrote to one fan.

By Thursday, July 9, Webb had deleted his account.

After Webb’s rough game against the Blue Jays, the Giants were mired in a stretch that saw them lose six out of their last nine games. They got back on the winning track on Thursday by defeating the Rockies, 8-2, in the first game of a four-game home series.

“Yes, there’s no doubt about that,” Gronkowski said. “It also encourages everyone to ask you when you’re doing it right in front of your significant other. It’s a lot of encouragement.”

Gronkowski further explained how waiting in the long procession of vehicles to get into Swift and Kelce’s wedding at Madison Square Garden was not going to get in the way of his new passion: watching the World Cup.

“We’re sitting there, it was the most amount of black cars I’ve ever seen going into Madison Square Garden,” he recalled. “It was five blocks of black cars in a row. I’m like, ‘Heck no, I ain’t just sitting here doing nothing.’”

Gronkowski pulled out his phone and watched the dramatic game between Argentina and Cape Verde, which was happening at the same time.

Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce Aeon/GCImages

“Let’s put that game on the screen,” he said. “That got me prepared for the wedding because that’s one of the best games you could have possibly watched. It got you out of your seat. It got you excited and the same with this wedding.”

Argentina avoided one of the biggest World Cup upsets of all time in the game, scoring in extra time to secure the victory.

Gronkowski’s soccer enthusiasm is a new thing, which he does not shy away from admitting.

“I’m glad you feel the true emotions of me being a true fan of soccer now,” he told Winston, 32. “It’s no BS. I’m not putting a front on. I never watched a game in my life.”

Gronkowski and Kostek, 34, have been dating since 2015, when the two met while she was a member of the Patriots’ cheerleading squad.

Kostek recently admitted that she’s also felt the pressure to get engaged after dating Gronkowski for over a decade.

“When I was 21, I definitely thought I would have been married with kids by now, and sometimes I go back and I judge myself — or even now,” she told People in May. “I’ll be like, ‘Wow, I’m behind.'”

UPDATE 7/9/26 at 3:13 p.m. ET: A spokesperson for Madison Square Garden has shared a statement with Us Weekly in response to WIRED‘s report.

“WIRED’s reporting is inaccurate and false,” the statement reads. “MSG is pursuing legal remedies.”

Original story below.

Celebrity fans packed the sidelines of Madison Square Garden during the New York Knicks’ run to the NBA championship, and even more filed in weeks later for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding.

It now appears many had a risk assessment attached to them by the Garden itself, according to a story from WIRED on Thursday, July 9.

The outlet reported that more than 400 celebrities, including several who were at the wedding, have been assigned a risk score by an internal MSG database, ranging from “flag,” the lowest, to “banned from MSG.”

The designations came to light after criminal hacker collective ShinyHunters published a “treasure trove” of documents from the company, which included a database of almost 40,000 celebrities and public figures. About 1 percent of them were assigned a risk score.

Did Travis Kelce Reveal Taylor Swift MSG Wedding Location Months Ago?

Five attendees at Swift and Kelce’s wedding — Ice Spice, Selena Gomez, Benson Boone, Michael Strahan and Mariska Hargitay — were labeled “low risk.”

Low risk is the second-lowest tier in the database, and also includes diehard Knicks fans Edie Falco, Tracy Morgan and Ben Stiller. Medium risk comes after that and includes Lily Allen, Anna Wintour and Morgan Wallen. Freddie Gibbs, Lil Jon, DaBaby, and A Boogie Wit da Hoodie are all high risk, and rapper Lil Tjay has been banned from The Garden.

CHARLY TRIBALLEAU / AFP via Getty Images

A spokesperson for Madison Square Garden refuted WIRED‘s story, saying in a statement to Us Weekly, “WIRED‘s reporting is inaccurate and false. MSG is pursuing legal remedies.”

The story did not mention Charles Oakley’s risk assessment despite widespread reports that he has been banned from MSG. An MSG spokesperson told Us in June that it would be inaccurate to say Oakley, 62, is “banned.”

Is MSG Available for Rentals? What to Know Amid Taylor Swift Wedding Rumors

The reasons for each characterization are unclear, but some seem to have been labeled as risks due to previous comments critical of Madison Square Garden or its CEO, James Dolan. A source told WIRED that Fat Joe was flagged as “medium risk” because of his association with Jadakiss, who once said of Dolan, 71, “It seems like he’s always more happier when the team sucks.”

Us has reached out to The Garden for comment.

WIRED also revealed that the database lists 32 political figures who have supported MSG in the past and “tracks some celebrities’” race, gender identity and sexual orientation. That includes 93 people labeled “LGBTQIA,” such as Ricky Martin and Phoebe Bridgers.

The report comes two months after WIRED ran a story delving into MSG’s so-called “surveillance machine,” which it alleges “obsessively tracked” a trans woman “over a two-year period, monitoring her movements through the venue down to the second.”

Jalen Brunson Dodges Question About Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Wedding

A report reviewed by the outlet noted the exact time that the woman took the escalator up to the concourse, paid for a drink and more, while also including the screenshot of a security camera capturing her hugging an usher. It also noted the time she entered the women’s bathroom and exited precisely two minutes and five seconds later.

“I’ve never met James Dolan. I don’t know the higher-up leadership at Madison Square Garden. But, like, there does seem to be a bit of a pattern here,” Evan Greer, director of the digital rights group Fight for the Future, told WIRED. “They just seem overly interested in queer and trans people in their venue.”

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is adjusting to life as a dad, and he’s come to realize that fatherhood has helped him focus on what really matters.

“With what I do, and the hits that accumulate over time, and the little things of being able to play with your kids on the playground one day, throw the ball back to them, and understanding that you got to be right in all facets of your life to get to that point,” he exclusively told Us Weekly in an interview to promote his extended partnership with drug-free sleep aid brand Natrol. “So, making sure that I am getting the good sleep that I can get to recover the way I need to recover, to be the dad that I want to be.”

Allen, 30, married his wife, actress Hailee Steinfeld, in May 2025, two years after they began dating. The couple welcomed their first child, daughter Harper, in April.

He also admitted that fatherhood has helped him redefine what he sees as success. Allen is a former NFL MVP and a four-time Pro Bowl quarterback who has led the Bills to the playoffs every season since 2019, though a Super Bowl ring has eluded him.

Josh Allen Isn't Putting Pressure on Himself Ahead of Bills' Super Bowl Push

“Success looks like getting my daughter down, back to sleep at night,” he said. “It makes everything much less relevant. The outside stuff, it just makes you feel like it doesn’t matter.”

Josh Allen Photo by Mike Carlson/Getty Images

Stressful as it might sound, Allen seems to be enjoying every bit of being a dad.

“Honestly, everything about it’s been the best part,” he said “I tell this to all my teammates, and anybody who asks, how fatherhood is. It’s the coolest, most rewarding thing. It’s the greatest thing I’ve ever done.”

He added that fatherhood has allowed him to “fall in love with my wife all over again.”

Josh Allen Opens Up About Marrying 'Best Friend' Hailee Steinfeld

“Seeing her as a mother, it’s just, it’s awesome,” he said, lauding Steinfeld, 29, as “the absolute best” mom.

Harper isn’t the only one who needs to get to sleep. Allen’s partnership with Natrol is, in part, about making sure he can enjoy fatherhood well after his playing days are over.

Part of how Allen does that is to incorporate Natrol Ultra Sleep and Ultra Energy into his daily routine. It allows him to fall asleep faster, stay asleep longer and have more energy during the day.

“It’s been life changing because I understand what it’s like to have good sleep, and now what it’s like to not have such great sleep,” he said. “So, to have a supplement that really assists you in falling asleep and keeping you asleep, so you can wake up feeling refreshed, and then on top of that, you have the energy that fills your body with what it needs and really good nutrients to keep you feeling great throughout the day.”

Former U.S. ski team member TJ Lanning has died, the team confirmed on Tuesday, July 7. He was 41.

No cause of death has been released as of publication.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of TJ Lanning, a former U.S. Ski Team alpine skier and coach whose impact on our sport went far beyond his years of competition. 🤍,” the U.S. ski team wrote via Instagram. “Our thoughts are with his family, friends and children during this difficult time.”

A Helena, Montana native, Lanning specialized in downhill, super-G and combined racing, according to Ski Racing Media, which also called him, ”one of the most promising American speed skiers of his generation.”

Olympic Snowboarder Ueli Kestenholz Dead After Being Trapped in Avalanche

“Lanning’s career was defined not only by talent but also by toughness,” the outlet wrote. “He raced with a willingness to push the limit, and that approach made him exciting to watch. It also came with a heavy physical cost. His career included repeated injuries, including crashes that interrupted several seasons and kept him from realizing the full potential many saw in him.”

One of the highlights of Lanning’s career came in 2008 when he became the U.S. downhill champion and qualified for the World Cup Finals in downhill. He finished 25th overall in the grueling discipline and placed 33rd in super-G.

Lanning retired a year later after a frightening accident during a race when a crash resulted in him dislocating his left knee and fracturing the C5 vertebra in his neck. Unable to return to competition, he transitioned to coaching, assisting the U.S. Ski Team.

“Lanning’s life in ski racing was marked by promise, pain, persistence and impact,” Ski Racing Media wrote. “He brought the sport moments of genuine excitement and, later, gave back through coaching. His death at such a young age is a profound loss for the American ski racing community.”

Friends and fans shared their tributes to Lanning in the comments of the U.S. ski team’s post.

“I feel incredibly lucky to have known TJ through ski racing,” Ski Racing Media content director Katie Twible wrote. “His smile lit up every ski hill he was on, and he brought so much energy to the people around him. Today our ski community has lost someone special. My heart is with his family, his children, and everyone who loved him. 💔.”

“What a tremendous loss for the ski world,” former Swiss alpine ski racer Carlo Janka added. “He was an incredible athlete and an even more wonderful human being. My thoughts are with his family, friends and everyone who knew him. 🙏😢.”

After his college days, Jamil signed with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent but transitioned to the Arena Football League before ever playing an NFL game. He was working as the defensive coordinator at Red Lion Christian Academy in Delaware at the time of his death.

Jamal added that his brother’s final words will “stay with me for the rest of my life.”

“Before this moment, he looked at us with peace and said, ‘It’s time for me to level up, and everything down here for me is complete.’ 💪🏾,” Jamal wrote.

He continued, “If you were blessed enough to know Jamil, then you know exactly who he was. He loved with his whole heart. He kept it real no matter who you were. He would give you the shirt off his back, tell you the truth even when it was hard to hear, and stand beside the people he loved no matter what. He didn’t just live life he poured every ounce of himself into it.”

Jamil’s cause of death has not been revealed, but Jamal wrote that watching him fight, “has been one of the most courageous things I’ve ever witnessed. You never complained. You never quit. You stood 10 toes down through it all. A true soldier. A true warrior. You fought with everything you had until your very last breath. 💪🏾✅.”

Jamal added that he takes comfort in knowing his brother is no longer in pain.

“No more suffering. No more hospitals. No more hurting. Just peace,” he wrote. “The kind of peace you deserve.”

Red Lion Christian also posted a tribute to Jamil via Facebook on Wednesday, July 9.

“Coach Jamil’s heart, knowledge, and passion will forever be a part of our program,” the post read. “Coach Jamil touched countless lives in a deeply positive way, and he will forever be remembered as one of the greatest, most inspirational coaches and friends in our program’s history.”

Hallmark found the end zone with its sweeping Holiday Touchdown franchise.

The TV network announced its partnership with the NFL in 2024, creating a brand-new Countdown to Christmas flick inspired by the Kansas City Chiefs.

“This holiday season, Hallmark is all about bringing joy to the world,” Hallmark Chief Brand Officer Darren Abbott said in a statement. “Our new partnership with the NFL and Chiefs is uniquely designed to do just that — to find universal ways to spread cheer, tell heartwarming stories and build excitement for our treasured hometown brands during this very special time of year.

At the time, the Chiefs were the reigning Super Bowl champions but soared to even greater heights thanks to pop star Taylor Swift’s real life romance with tight end Travis Kelce. (Kelce’s mom, Donna, even made a cameo in Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story.)

Holiday Movies Inspired by Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce's Romance Compared

Since Holiday Touchdown’s debut in KC, the franchise has expanded to other NFL teams. Keep scrolling for a full guide:

‘A Chiefs Love Story’

The inaugural Holiday Touchdown film premiered in November 2024, following a diehard family of Chiefs fans competing to win a “Fan of the Year” trophy. Daughter Alana (Hunter King) quickly gets to know the team’s director of fan engagement, Derrick (Tyler Hynes), as he determines the contest winner.

“I don’t know that I’ll ever experience [anything] quite like that again. And it speaks to the people who are in that city,” Hynes exclusively told Us Weekly of filming in Kansas City and at the Chiefs’ Arrowhead Stadium. “It seemed like it was the best of America that we got to serve with this.”

‘A Bills Love Story’

Buffalo Bills star Damar Hamlin makes a cameo in ‘Holiday Touchdown: A Bills Love Story.’ Hallmark Media/ David Scott Holloway

Holiday Touchdown moved to Buffalo, New York, in November 2025 for a sweet rom-com inspired by the Buffalo Bills. In the film, Morgan (Holland Roden) and Gabe (Matthew Daddario) are childhood best friends and neighbors who team up to uncover the mysterious gift giver who’s been sending Morgan’s uncle an annual Bill-themed holiday present for decades.

Much like A Chiefs Love Story, the Bills version was filmed in Buffalo and at the team’s Highmark Stadium.

“They say that these houses are in the shadow of the Highmark Stadium, and they really are,” Roden told Us in November 2025, revealing the cast even got to tailgate with the Bills Mafia fans. “We got to go to a real game where we drank out of a bowling ball. We helped clean up the ears of the man that puts mustard and ketchup all over him. I was Q-tip Girl for him.”Filming A Bills Love Story also turned Roden into a proud supporter of the New York team.

“I am 100 percent a Bills fan. It’s hard not to fall in love with the city of good neighbors,” she stated. “You go into any coffee shop restaurant [and] there’s a spirit of the Bills. Either by physical murals on the wall, flags in the front yard. It’s like the Bills’ election 24/7 there. I’m from Dallas. [As] a Cowboy fan, it’s hard to top [the Texas team], and Buffalo did it tenfold.”

‘A Bears Love Story’

Hallmark announced in June 2026 that the Holiday Touchdown was en route to Chicago for its third installment of the franchise.

“We are honored, grateful and excited to join forces with Hallmark Media, Skydance Sports and NFL Films on this special project,” Chicago Bears president and CEO, Kevin Warren, said in a statement. “As we continually look for ways to further the connection with our passionate Chicago Bears fans and amplify our global brand in creative ways, we will provide our club and our fans with the opportunity to grow together by creating a special, meaningful movie. We look forward to the work ahead alongside Hallmark Media, Skydance Sports and NFL Films, and we are energized for the product we will create together, celebrating football, family, the Chicago Bears and the holiday season.”

Lyndsy Fonseca will star as Avery opposite Robert Buckley‘s Matt. Marsha Mason, Barbara Alyn Woods and Khary Payton round out the starting lineup.

Further details about A Bears Love Story, including a story line, premiere date or potential NFL cameos, have yet to be announced.

San Francisco 49ers star Kyle Juszczyk had a sense of humor when asked about what comes with more pressure: teeing it up at the biggest celebrity golf tournament in the world or the notorious NDA he signed to attend Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift‘s wedding.

“That’s a good genuine question,” Juszczyk, 35, exclusively told Us Weekly with a laugh while at the ACC Golf Championship presented by American Century Investments in South Lake Tahoe. “You know what, year three there definitely will be nerves on that first tee shot but it’s not quite the same as it was the first year.”

When asked to sum up the wedding in three words, Juszczyk replied, “Most incredible event.”

Kyle and his wife, Kristin Juszczyk, attended the star-studded wedding on Friday, July 3, inside Madison Square Garden in New York City. While reflecting on the evening, Kyle shared with Us that there were many celeb encounters at the nuptials — which were officiated by comedian Adam Sandler.

“There were so many people there it was hard not to be shocked by a lot of people,” he said of Swift and Kelce’s special day.

After watching the couple say “I do” in the Big Apple, Kyle traveled to Lake Tahoe to participate in the biggest celebrity golf tournament in the world alongside fellow athletes Jason Kelce and Steph Curry and other notable names like Colin Jost and Miles Teller.

Patrick Smith/Getty Images

“I absolutely love golf,” Kyle said. “Super competitive in it. I want to do well. I’m not really that guy that’s just like, ‘Oh, we’re out here. It’s fun no matter what. It’s beautiful.’ I actually want to compete and do well. I realize I’m not going to be a top 10 guy, but I have a goal for myself. And I just want to each year get better and better.”

When asked if it’s hard to come out on the course and try his hand at golf while being a star athlete in his own field, Kyle laughed at the idea.

Cindy Ord/Getty Images for SiriusXM

“Well, that’s what’s so great about golf,” he explained. “Because it’s a whole new challenge. Having played football my entire life, I do feel like I’m at the top of the game there. This is just another new challenge. A new one for me to come out each day and try to get a little bit better. That’s what’s so great about it.”

Michael Phelps opened up about the harsh financial realities that many Olympians face.

“I don’t think you’re going into the Olympic space to be a millionaire,” Phelps, 41, admitted on the Tuesday, July 7, edition of the “Richer Lives” podcast. “I think you’re doing it just because you love the sport.”

The competitive swimmer has won more Olympic medals than any other athlete in any sport, with 28 total medals across four Summer Games. (Phelps also holds the all-time record for most gold medal wins with 23, in addition to his three silver and two bronze medals.)

Phelps parlayed his success into a media career that has included major endorsement deals and even his own video game — but that’s not a trajectory that many Olympians replicate.

Olympian Michael Phelps’ Hot Body Evolution Through the Years: Photos

“I think there’s a very small percent of Olympians that actually can make a living off of it,” he noted. “I was very fortunate to be one of those. I got to wake up every single day and do what I loved.”

The athlete recalled that there were “times [he] wanted to quit” swimming before his Olympics success, only for his mother, Debbie, to remind him of the financial realities of that decision.

“My mom’s like, ‘If you want to quit, do you want to go work a 9-to-5 job?’ I was like, ‘Good call,’” he recalled to host Vivian Tu. “For me, I was going to swim … eight to 10 times a week, that’s a job? I’m getting paid to do what I love.”

Phelps remembered feeling that his life was “all about sports” as a kid even though it “never really felt like a job.”

“I was always outside playing. I was having fun. I was being myself,” he said. “I was very lucky to find a career where I could just be me, my authentic self. I had a blast doing it.”

Michael Phelps Sarah Stier/Getty Images

Later in the podcast, Phelps confirmed that he received an early education from a financial advisor at age 15. Now, he leans into endorsements where he is offered a financial stake in the companies he signs with.

“Over time, my agent got smart in trying to structure contracts in a different way. Whether it was me taking equity or me just taking cash,” he said. “Just having an agent that is able to structure deals in different ways, thinking long term. You’re invested in it. You want [these companies] to go massive. Instead of just getting a pile of cash, for me, I’m along for the ride.”

Phelps also touched on overcoming public controversies, including his two previous DUI arrests. (The Olympian entered a guilty plea to a charge of driving while impaired in 2004 and later pleaded guilty to driving under the influence in 2014.)

He also temporarily walked away from the world of competitive swimming following the 2012 London Games, citing burnout and frustration with the sport. (He told reporters at the time that he “just wanted to be done with swimming and didn’t want anything to do with the sport anymore.”)

Why Michael Phelps Was 'Disappointed' in Team USA's Olympic Swimmers

“At that point, I didn’t care [about the financial implications],” he acknowledged. “I literally came back to the 2012 Olympics because I had to. I had contractual obligations that I had to fulfill.”

He said that he was so disillusioned with the sport at the time that he’d “skip” a week’s worth of training on a whim.

“I was just stiff-arming the sport because I wanted a break,” Phelps confessed. “After my second DUI, at that point, I didn’t feel like I should be alive anymore. I felt like I didn’t deserve to be alive anymore.”

He continued, “At that point, I just became scared. I think that was the first time that I asked for help. I feel that for so long we would just kind of sweep it under the rug. Nobody wanted to talk about it … I almost wanted to create a generational shift. Make real change.”

“It’s not embarrassing to go to therapy. It’s not embarrassing to ask for help,” he added, pointing out how much he valued his sponsorship deal with online therapy portal TalkSpace.

Phelps ultimately returned to swimming for the 2016 Summer Games in Rio, where he won five gold medals and a silver. He retired from the sport in August 2016.

Jacob Tobey, a rising voice in NBA broadcasting, is no longer the San Antonio Spurs’ play-by-play announcer after being publicly accused of cheating on his girlfriend with a Spurs player’s family member in a series of Instagram posts.

Front Office Sports was first to report the news on Thursday, July 9, and did not specify if Tobey, 29, had been fired.

The allegation first emerged on Monday, July 6, when Tobey’s Instagram account posted a statement via his Story, which read, “This is my girlfriend of six years. But I cheated on her with Loren Waters. So feel free to continue following me if you really think I’m a good guy because I’m not. :).”

Loren Waters is the sister of Spurs guard Lindy Waters III. Fans have speculated that Tobey’s girlfriend is the one who accessed the account to post it.

NBA Star Jaden Ivey’s Wife Tells Him to ‘Stop’ Filming Her Amid Controversy

The next slide appeared to show photo booth images of Tobey and Loren kissing, with, “Me and the new girl,” written over the post.

The person behind Tobey’s account also changed the caption to one of his photos, which showed him singing the national anthem before a Spurs game to simply read “#cheater.”

Tobey’s social accounts have since been switched to private, but screenshots continue to circulate on social media.

The up-and-coming broadcaster began working for the Spurs in 2024. Before that, he worked for Denver’s 9NEWS and served as a play-by-play voice on Fox Sports and the Pac-12 Network.

Us Weekly has reached out to the Spurs for comment.

The reported personnel change comes less than a month after the Spurs fell to the New York Knicks in the 2026 NBA Finals and two weeks after Tobey signed a multi-year extension to stay with the franchise.

“A season to remember 🤩,” he wrote via X at the time. “From calling 62 wins to watching this young team get all the way to the NBA Finals! Thank you to the @spurs players, coaches & fans! I’m excited to announce that I signed a multi-year extension to stay with the Spurs (on the ⛳️😆). I love this city!“

Former Spurs player and current TV analyst Sean Elliott, who worked alongside Tobey, congratulated him via X as well.

“Well deserved Strong Oak,” he wrote. “You have grown into your role so well, and I hope you have that seat for many years to come. It is a joy working with you. Those national anthems got you the new deal BTW.”

Paige Shiver, who accused former University of Michigan head football coach Sherrone Moore of breaking into her apartment after coming forward about their “inappropriate relationship,” has sued the school.

Shiver, 32, accused the university of intentionally violating the Michigan Freedom of Information Act, which is designed to help people find and review public records.

In the lawsuit, which was filed on Wednesday, July 8, Shiver’s lawyers accused the school of “arbitrarily and capriciously” breaking the law by intentionally withholding documents related to Moore’s firing.

Moore, 40, was terminated in December 2025, after an investigation uncovered a years-long relationship between Moore and Shiver, a former University of Michigan staff member.

Sherrone Moore’s Accuser Breaks Her Silence After He Doesn’t Get Jail Time

“The lawsuit filed today demands transparency and accountability from the University of Michigan, President [Domenico] Grasso and the Board of Regents,” Shiver’s attorney, Andrew Stroth, said in a statement.

The statement continued, “This public university paid [law firm] Jenner & Block $12 million to investigate the Sherrone Moore scandal and the abuse, Title IX and Title VII violations within the athletic department and Schembechler Hall, yet now refuses to release the investigation’s findings. It was important for our client to file this initial FOIA lawsuit to ensure the truth and facts come out.”

Stroth argued that the requested documents will show that the university and the athletic department “had knowledge of this pattern and practice of abuse against Ms. Shiver and others.”

The lawsuit also claims that Shiver faced sex discrimination and was subjected to a hostile work environment during her time at the university.

The University of Michigan declined to comment when contacted by the Detroit Free Press.

Moore was originally charged with felony home invasion, misdemeanor stalking and misdemeanor breaking and entering after Shiver accused him of breaking into her apartment and threatening her. All of those charges were eventually dropped.

In March, Moore pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges of malicious use of a telecommunications device in context of a domestic relationship and trespassing.

Moore was sentenced to 18 months of probation in April, avoiding jail time.

Days after Moore’s sentencing, Shiver revealed she became pregnant during their relationship.

During an interview on Good Morning America, Shiver explained that her unborn baby was diagnosed with Pompe disease, a genetic disorder that weakens muscle strength.

“Multiple doctors and experts told me that it wouldn’t be right or healthy for me to keep the baby,” Shiver said.

Shiver said Moore was aware of the pregnancy, allegedly telling her to “do what’s right for your body.”

The coach has been married to his wife, Kelli Moore, since July 2015, and the couple share three daughters.

Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Braydon Fisher is remembering his father, Norm Fisher, after his sudden death on Monday, July 6, while on a road trip with the team. He was 62.

“He was an amazing person,” Braydon, 25, told reporters when he rejoined the team on Wednesday, July 8. “I’ve heard you say this about myself, and he always loved when you all said this, but there was never a bad day for Norm. His name was Norm. There was never a bad day for him. He was always happy, cheerful and willing to help anybody. He loved people. He did everything as perfectly as you could. He was very proud of what he had.”

Norm died after suffering a stroke while accompanying the Blue Jays on their trip to San Francisco to face the Giants. He was visiting some high school friends in the area at the time, according to MLB.com.

Despite being with the team on Wednesday, the team’s final day in San Francisco, Braydon will remain on bereavement leave until the Blue Jays’ next series in San Diego over the weekend. He called the past few days the “hardest” of his and his family’s life.

Everything the MLB Community Has Said About Miller Gardner's Death

Braydon remembered his dad as someone who “liked to talk about” how he was also a good baseball player back in his day.

“I always gave him [a hard time] for that,” Braydon said. “My mom always tells him that I got my athletic ability from her. He played baseball and he loved baseball. Growing up, if it had a score, it was on the TV. He loved watching it and he loves all the guys. I don’t think that for the last two years, you’d see him not wearing Blue Jays gear. Not ever. No matter the occasion.”

Braydon is in his second MLB season and has performed well for Toronto, primarily out of the bullpen. He was not selected to the American League All-Star team and will instead travel home next week during the break to be with his family and remember his dad’s life.

“He always supported me in every single way,” Braydon said. “He did everything he could to make sure I achieved the dream I’d talked about since I was five.”

He also thanked the Blue Jays for their support as he processes Norm’s death.

“I just want to thank the whole Blue Jays staff for how amazing they’ve been supporting me and my family,” Braydon said. “Getting flights, hotels, giving me as much time as I needed and all of the nice messages.”

The Blue Jays are off on Thursday, July 9, before beginning their series against the Padres on Friday.

Roney died on Sunday, July 5. He was 39. Details about his death remain scarce, but friend Jonathan Wall said Roney died in a “tragic accident” in a social media post.

“Jack was also a proud Wolfpack swimmer and someone who meant a lot to me personally,” Holloway added. “He was my volunteer coach the first year we won the men’s ACC title after I came back to NC State — a year I will never forget. From that season on, we stayed close friends. Jack cared deeply, showed up for people, and brought steady love and belief into every room he entered.”

Jack’s sister, Amber Roney Moore, said her late brother “treated everyone with kindness, and because of that everyone loved you.”

“You were strong in every sense of the word…mentally, physically, and spiritually,” she wrote via Facebook on Tuesday. “A record holding swimmer, an example of discipline and perseverance. We all loved watching you swim, watching you race. I looked up to you so much as a swimmer myself but I was never going to be as good as you! You watched every one of my races that you could. I remember one specifically you hugged me as I cried after I lost a race. You were always there for me, as kids and adults.”

He continued, “I still feel blessed to be a part of this team. The memories this summer will last a lifetime. It’s just the start for us and for this sport in America. 🇺🇸.”

Team USA lost to Belgium 4-1 in their round of 16 soccer game earlier this week. Pulisic, specifically, had exited the match in the 59th minute amid an injury.

“I just totally twisted my ankle and my knee in one play,” Pulisic told reporters after the game, per ESPN. “I mean, whatever. I have time to rest. It’s just unfortunate way to finish.”

He continued, “I felt really good this summer with the guys and I thought my level was high. Yeah, it’s disappointing. I didn’t quite have the moments I was hoping to and to try to help us to really push and get over this next step of beating a really good team. I’m disappointed with myself, of course, but I’m going to try to stay positive. I did a lot of good things and the team did as well.”

While Pulisic left the game following ankle and leg injuries, the pro athlete still had hope that his teammates could have turned the game around.

“I trust in the guys no matter what and we believe to the end,” he said in his press conference. “Yeah, it sucked this tournament with one earlier and then another injury now. It sucked. It was tough. It was difficult for me to deal with, but we have a great team and there’s so many guys that stepped up this tournament that should be good. We were really positive coming into it and there’s a lot of things to be proud of this summer for sure, but it’s always tough to lose like we did today.”

Following Team USA’s loss, U.S. Men’s Soccer issued a statement directly to fans.

“Dear America … Thank you for standing with us and for believing in this team,” an X statement read. “Thank you for believing in the future of soccer in this country.”

As the wife of arguably the greatest basketball player who ever lived, Savannah James is used to people criticizing her husband — but she’s still willing to call them out.

As LeBron James searches for a new team to play with next season, Savannah, 39, called his haters “crazy” in a conversation with co-host April McDaniel on the Tuesday, July 7, episode of their “Everybody’s Crazy” podcast.

The two were discussing the positivity in their podcast community and acknowledging that it is not the norm, when McDaniel said, “I think people build up things to crush them.”

“You think that? That is a fact,” Savannah responded.

LeBron James Admits Marriage With Wife Savannah Isn't 'Picture Perfect'

“I feel like that’s the hard part with LeBron,” McDaniel continued. “Being such an icon, how negative people can be. I’m like, ‘Can y’all get a life?’”

“It’s crazy,” Savannah said.

She then added, “People have definitely made careers out of talking about [LeBron]. Like… [critics having] a subjective opinion about what everybody thinks is the best thing. But to be on the other side of it, it’s like, ‘No, it’s not.’ They make careers out of that.”

LeBron, 41, already has four NBA championships to his name as well as four MVP awards, 22 All-Star appearances and three Olympic gold medals. He was a member of the Los Angeles Lakers from 2018 to 2026, winning the 2020 NBA championship with the franchise.

LeBron James’ Wife Savannah James Stirs Debate With Strip Club Admission

He announced his intention to leave the Lakers on June 30, just before NBA free agency opened.

“LeBron James is one of the greatest athletes in history,” the Lakers wrote in a statement shared via social media that day. “We will always be thankful for his eight years with the Lakers — including the title he led us to in 2020 under the toughest imaginable circumstances and the countless records he broke in purple and gold. We wish him all the best in the future, both on the court and off. He will always be a cherished part of the Lakers family.”

LeBron quoted the post on X, thanking the Lakers for the past eight seasons.

“No, THANK YOU!” he wrote. “Truly a honor to wear the 💜💛 while trying to continuing the greatness & legacies that came before me! Hope I made a few proud during my stint. 🙏🏾🫡👑.”

LeBron James Reveals Son Bronny, 21, Moved Out: 'We Don't Talk as Much'

At LeBron’s age, it’s only logical that the talk of retirement would follow him wherever he decides to go. He was asked about the possibility after the Lakers lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2026 NBA Playoffs, where he said it would depend on whether he could still commit to giving 100 percent.

“I think for me it’s about the process,” he said. “If I can commit to still being in love with the process of showing up to the arena five-and-a-half hours before a game to start preparing for a game, giving everything I got, diving for loose balls and doing everything that you know that it takes to go out and play.”

Meghan McCain is sick and tired of hearing about Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s New York City nuptials.

“Please stop telling me things about this wedding,” McCain, 41, wrote via X on Tuesday, July 7, in reference to a story about Kansas City Chiefs WAG Jackie Tranquill winning a $6,700 Chanel purse at the wedding on Friday, July 3.

McCain’s mentions were filled with people who didn’t exactly share the same sentiment.

“Maybe don’t tweet about it? And then the [algorithm] follows,” one social media user commented.

Jason Kelce Tees Off in 1st Public Appearance Since Brother Travis' Wedding

Another said, “By the way, no one is forcing you to read it and comment. Maybe you need a remedial lesson in how algorithms work?”

One month before the wedding, McCain suggested that reports that Swift and Kelce, both 36, would get married at Madison Square Garden were a potential smokescreen.

“The politics person in me thinks this is a Friday dump planted to distract from the fact that she’s likely getting married in a very private ceremony in Rhode Island this weekend,” McCain claimed via X on June 5.

That ended up not being the case, of course, as the A-list couple got married in front of a star-studded crowd that included Brad Pitt, Jennifer Lopez, Ed Sheeran, Julianne Moore and Karlie Kloss.

McCain has never shied away from talking about Swift. In 2024, McCain said she doesn’t “wake up in the morning like, ‘My God, Taylor Swift’s music’s the best thing ever.’'”

Inside Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s ‘Incredibly Emotional’ MSG Wedding

The political commentator’s remarks came in the thick of Swift’s Eras Tour, which became the highest-grossing tour of all-time.

“She has, respectfully, nowhere else to go but down at this point,” McCain said on her “Citizen McCain” podcast. “She’s TIME magazine’s Person of the Year. This tour is so big, all these things. … I do think when she’s done touring, giving us a mild break from being in the news cycle as much as she is would be helpful for her, and us as commentators. But I do think when she’s done touring giving us a mild break from her being in the news cycle as much as she is would be helpful for her and for us as commentators.”

McCain’s exhaustion came from feeling like Swift is one of the “only topics that Americans are allowed to talk about and are in the news all day long.”

“I think for her, like, a little bit of a beat would be good after she’s done with her long tours,” McCain added.

U.S. Soccer legend Landon Donovan had some scathing takes for current team star Christian Pulisic, and he didn’t hold back after Team USA bowed out of the 2026 World Cup in the Round of 16 against Belgium.

Pulisic, 27, made little impact during the USMNT’s run, leaving the Belgium match in the second half with an injury. Team USA lost 4-1. Pulisic failed to score in the tournament.

“I’m starting to look back and … it’s more than just a trend now. It is,” Donovan, 44, said on the Tuesday, July 7 episode of his “Unfiltered Soccer” podcast. “Like, when the games are easy, and it’s a home qualifier, and it’s Jamaica, yes. But in the big moments and the big games, he just hasn’t. … I’m just saying it factually. He is who he is at this point.”

He continued, “This was a game where you needed him to go, ‘Give me the ball, I’m gonna stick it in the back of the net, it’s 2-2, let’s go.’ And he just didn’t. And he wasn’t even close to it.”

Soccer Star Landon Donovan Slams Airline for 'Worst Travel Experience'

Donovan played in three World Cups during his playing days, scoring five goals over 12 career matches. Looking back on his experience on the sport’s biggest stage, he could not empathize with Pulisic reportedly asking to be subbed out of the game.

“And in fact … there’s reporting that he asked to get subbed out of the game. I can’t confirm that, so I don’t know if that’s true or not,” Donovan said. “But the reality is, he came out of a World Cup knockout game at home, with his leg still intact. Because … you would have had to f***ing drag me off the field. And I would have punched the doctor in the face and said, ‘You’re not taking me off the field. Put whatever you need to put in me, and I’m staying on the field.’”

As Donovan said off the bat, Pulisic’s inconsistent playing time has become a trend. Last summer, he took heat for skipping the Concacaf Gold Cup tournament to rest, only to still be seemingly unhealthy for the World Cup.

Dave Portnoy Throws USMNT Jersey in Trash During World Cup Loss Meltdown

“He took the time off in the Gold Cup so that he would be ready for this season,” Donovan said. “And he would be fit and healthy and firing on all cylinders. And the reality is, he’s scored one goal since December. He’s not played well for the national team, not played well for Milan … and he’s been injured.”

Donovan isn’t the only U.S. soccer legend to call out Pulisic. Former women’s national team star Carli Loyd took issue with him saying that he now has time to “rest” with Team USA out of contention.

“You rest when your playing career is over,” she wrote via X. “Period.”

Loyd’s former USWNT teammate Sydney Leroux agreed, sharing Pulisic’s comment via X and writing, “He rested the entire World Cup.”
