The R&B singer and Grammy winner was born in Dallas on Oct. 14, 1978. As a child, he sang in the church choir and quickly discovered his vocal talents.

At 13, a Star Search appearance afforded him a chance in the spotlight, and a record deal soon followed. In 1994 his debut album, Usher, was released. In the years since, the performer has released four other studio albums and has also appeared in films including The Faculty and Light It Up.

Previously involved with TLC singer Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas, Usher later married stylist Tameka Foster. They have two children, Usher, born in 2007, and Naviyd, born in 2008. However, in June 2009, the singer filed for divorce from Foster in Atlanta.
