Kat Von D

Kat von Drachenberg, better known as Kat von D, is a tattoo artist and reality TV star. Born March 8, 1982, in Nuevi Leon, Mexico, she was raised in Colton, Calif.

Von D got her first tattoo at the age of 14 — a “J” she put on her ankle herself. At 16 she decided to pursue her talent for inking and began working in her first professional shop, Sin City Tattoo.

She became nationally recognized when she participated in the TLC show Miami Ink, which followed artists at the 305 Ink tattoo shop in Miami Beach, Fla. She stayed on the program for two seasons, but left the show in 2007. Shortly after, TLC gave von D her own series called LA Ink.

Von D split didn’t just part ways with Miami Ink in 2007: she also split with her husband of three years, Oliver Peck, a fellow tattoo artist. In 2010, she began dating Jesse James, who, like her, had his own business (West Coast Choppers) and a reality show. The two were engaged in January 2011, but announced their split via Twitter six months later.
