About

Raised in Boston with younger brother Casey, Ben Affleck began his career by starring in commercials and children’s television programs. Alongside his childhood friend Matt Damon, Affleck hit the fame jackpot after the pair cowrote and costarred in the 1997 Academy Award-winning film Good Will Hunting. Then 25 years old, he remains the youngest writer to win an Oscar for screenwriting.

Affleck dated his Shakespeare in Love costar Gwyneth Paltrow briefly in 1998. Four years later, he began dating Jennifer Lopez, to whom he proposed in November 2002. Citing intense media scrutiny, the couple — known to fans as “Bennifer” — called off their wedding in 2004.

He went on to marry his Daredevil costar Jennifer Garner in June 2005 in a top-secret ceremony in Turks and Caicos. The couple share two daughters, Violet and Seraphina, and a son, Samuel. They announced their separation in June 2015 after 10 years of marriage and finalized their divorce in 2018.

Affleck started dating Lindsay Shookus in 2017, but the pair split after one year together. He later sparked a whirlwind romance with his Deep Water costar Ana De Armas in March 2020. The couple parted ways in January 2021.

“Bennifer” reunited when Affleck rekindled his romance with Lopez in May 2021 following her split from Alex Rodriguez earlier that year. Lopez confirmed her engagement to Ben in April 2022, and the couple wed in a surprise Las Vegas ceremony that July. They held a second wedding one month later in Georgia.

Affleck has continued to land leading roles in blockbuster movies, including Argo (which he also directed), Gone Girl and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He launched the independent production company Artists Equity with Damon in 2023 and serves as the CEO, working exclusively for the company. Ben’s fifth directorial effort, Air, was the first release from Artists Equity.
