Born in sleepy Napanee, Ontario in 1984, Avril Lavigne displayed her musical gifts by age two.

She quickly found an audience by singing in church choirs and at county fairs. By 17, she was queen of the pop charts thanks to her natural good looks, a trademark tie-over-a-T-shirt costume, and a carefully packaged anti-authority image that set her apart from the Britney Spears types that preceded her.

Best known for her catchy hits including "Sk8er Boi," "My happy Ending," and "Complicated," all three of her albums were staples on teen radio stations across America.

After dating for two years, Lavigne married Sum 41 singer Deryck Whibley in July 2006. Three years later, she filed for divorce in October 2009, citing "irreconcilable differences" in court paperwork.
