For the May cover of Marie Claire, Jessica Simpson went without makeup or retouching.

The reason: To promote her new initiative, "A Beautiful Me," a program she is launching next month to encourage young women to love themselves and feel comfortable in their own skin.
"I don't have anything to prove anymore," says the singer, 29, who once admitted to getting too much Restylane in her lips. "What other people think of me is not my business."'

Still, she tells the magazine she likes to get dolled up every once in a while. "If I'm in a mood to go out and feel hot and sexy, I want long hair that I can feel on my back," she says. "But I also like bed head."

Although Simpson said she was thrilled to shoot VH1's The Price of Beauty -- which centers on her world travels to discover how other cultures define beauty -- viewers aren't responding. Her show's March debut attracted around 1 million people, getting beat by a show on The History Channel.

OMG - WOW... wow!... wow...(read a bit more)... WOW! Who knew? Who knew Jessica was a real beauty?! I had no idea. WOW. I'm an artist (portraits in oil) and I think both photos are beautiful; but the braided dissheveled look is simply gorgeous. WOW... As for THE PRICE OF BEAUTY, the reason viewers "aren't responding" is because there's NO advertising... no one knows about the show, which should be plugged on both cable and network stations. Wow, Jessica, what a wonderful surprise; I had no idea you were a beaty under all that stuff. Congrats on all you do and the courage you had to summon up to do it. ;-) p.s. Oh, I forgot...she is also now famous for being fat. She is the fat, untalented girl raised by an incestuous father who probably watched while John Mayer crapped on her in the bedroom. Still, no sane person would want to be famous for that.

I love the idea of posing makeup free (that takes guts!) but is this really true? Why does she have black lines under her eyes? Is that supposed to be natural?
Its about time!!! we all know about the makeup and the airbrushing and when you see them in real life they look waaaaay different so who are they kidding she is still good looking because she is young and vibrant I am for the no makeup look keep it up

These people need to stop acting silly...you can clearly tell on the cover she is wearing eyeliner. Whether it's brown or a lighter hue...it's there...stop acting as if you just rolled out of bed...it's annoying and pathetic....they all have some sort of alterations....PLEASE JUST STOP...they make many women feel worse about themselves. She does look cute "natural."
I think Jessica looks BEAUTIFUL in this picture, as she does in all pictures. This one I especially like because it shows her confidence to show the world her beauty sans makeup and retouching. It's important to show young girls that you can be yourself and don't need all that added junk to look beautiful. Good for you Jess. My goodness, people can be so mean

ok , so what is she trying to prove?? i can see most of her face hiding behind either her hair or fake hair..and she at least has fake eyelashes so honstly it doesn't count
